How 'bout the V6 vs. a 350z?

It's been a while since I've posted, but everyone is putting the Camaro up to the 'Stang, but no one has mentioned the V6 Camaro against the 350. What's your input? Personally, the HP and torque are more similar on these two, and they both have IRS. The 350z has weight on its side, weighing in at 3320 (lightest) for a manual base model, and 3398 (heaviest) for a Grand Touring auto. The HP is 306 @ 6800 RPM, and torque is 268 @ 4800 RPM. 11.104 power to weight for the heavy one and 10.849 for the lighter one.

The Camaro, remember, is underrated. I believe it is in at (correct me if I'm wrong) 307 HP, but GM decided to put her in at 300. We'll work from 307. The Camaro has 307 HP @ 6400 RPM, and 273 torque @ 5200 RPM. The Camaro peaks in HP before the 350, but the torque on the 350 peaks before the Camaro. On the other hand, the Camaro has higher torque #s, so this may be a better race than the GT 'Stang, which would likely burst many bubbles on this forum. :yikes: The Camaro V6 weighs in at a whopping low of 3741 for a base manual, and 3780 for a loaded one. That's 12.185 Power to weight for the light one and 12.312 for the heavy one. The torque numbers may save her. I didn't compare gear ratios, so if anyone else wants to post 'em, they're up for grabs. Personally, I could care less. I'm springing for the SS. I've had a V6 for too long, and I'm ready for an upgrade.

I think it'll be a close race. Few things I would like to say are

a. The camaro is underrated just like corvette. So, I think race against a enthusiast (just above base model incl. Viscous LSD) model will be very interesting.

b. I believe 350Z has 3:42 gears. I do not have any idea what gears the new camaro will have. Gears DOES make a big difference.

c. 350Zs tend to have a pretty good top end and I think (if anything) that's where it will shine. I can def see the camaro take off real quick ahead of the Z in the begining due to high tq numbers but 350Z will catch up to it due to it's good top end. (I have no idea how good the top end on the new camaro)

d. I have the low rev high torque engine which is rated at 287 HP and 273 ft lbs of tq. I personally think my car is not a fast car really. It has a better exhaust tone and might handle a little bit better on autoxing .

So, if I were to put money on this race, I'd put money on the Camaro but it'll be a good race to watch. Outcome MAY be complete different than my expectations ;) .

Da*n, why it is not 2009 yet ...

350 wins.

for the same reason that we'd asume the Camaro would beat out a challenger with the same specs.

400lbs.

i mean the V6 is supposed to do 0-60 around 5.7 right?

350 does it in 5.3, and after 60mph the camaro has lost its advantage and the top end of the Z will end the race.

now you put the 350 against an SS... and ill have to help get the melted rubber off their windshield post-race haha

Is there any reason WHY the camaro weighs at 3741 lbs? I believe the new 370Z that's coming out in 2011, is suppose to be about 200 lbs LIGHTER than the current model and the HP output is suppose to bump to AT LEAST 330 HP .... against the 370Z, I don't know if the new v6 camaro has any chance but the old 350Z, I think it'll give good run for it's money.

Yeah, I heard Nissan wanted to lighten her up due to the 350 being heavier than the current competition.

Yeah but it looks ugly though... I don't know if you have seen the new Maxima. apparently, Nissan is going with a retarded "boomerang" type headlight deal which is just ugly IMO. But yeah, I'm still interested to know what really bumped the weight of the new camaro.

haha... I think the S2000 and the RX8 ... I believe S2000 weighs somewhere around 2700 lbs ( i could be wrong) ... Most Japanese cars are lightweight but they lack tq.... so, it's kinda like heavy car + high tq = light cars + less tq

ahh... gotcha... haha ... see when i think of lightweight, the 350 and the mini are the first ones that come to mind. and i doubt the 350 is chasing mini.

have you guys seen the 370? what kind of performance figures will be comming out of that?

Here we go again. The short list is:

Increase in safety mandates, more options, larger engines, Independent Rear Suspension, a 6spd tranny, bigger wheels and tires, etc.

Yes..kinda ..one of the members got a vid of it while he was driving in a Arizona highway.. it was completely camouflaged. But the output is def (at least) 330HP from the new 3.7L V6 (the same V6 in the G37 but 370Z will be a lot lighter than the G) ...

Sorry if I opened a can of worms or anything. I was just curious. Thanks for the answer.
