Audio doesn't match up with video.


Well, you have to think that the "muscle car" class is a bit....well...slim with choices.
The 5.0 GT probably wasn't released yet when this was filmed, and they already did an episode with a challenger(that also had the ZR1 and the CTS-V which they also called muscle cars), plus i'm almost certain the challenger isn't sold in the UK.
What else to compare it against? Something else with a 6.2L V8 that is brand new to them.

I normally love Top Gear, but as many have stated, Jeremy Clarkson loves bashing American cars. Hammond called it right though, if you want a car with more soul, you gotta go for the Camaro! And ditto to all the comments pointing out what a silly comparo it was! Apples & Oranges! I have never owned a Mercedes, but have had 8 Lexuses (Lexi?), and recently bought my 2SS because I wanted a HOT car to have some FUN in! Why would I buy an E-class if I wanted that?

True but thats not the camaro's fault, the car itself, as in how you perceive it. Thats mainly GM's fault. They were looking more into alternative sources then branching out........:iono:

I mean even Australia....they were the ones that helped with the development. As far as i know UK got it before Australia

I enjoyed seeing the SS on Top Gear - especially since it looked so much like my own - but was really surprised at the fact it was an auto and that they had such a bizarre match up - it simply made no sense..

Having said that - Hammy clearly really liked it - and, shock-horror - Jeremy said that it had "presence"....

Even my wife and kids who were sitting round the PC watching the "comparison" were wondering what the heck got into the heads of the Top Gear team

The one thing that I do have to say though - is that it is prety bad that the AMG sounded so much better than the Camaro !

As many other folks have said - with a fraction of the cost difference spent on addons the Camaro would take the AMG to the cleaners

Listening to the UK 40 thousand pounds / $64K reminded me how lucky I am to be in US and able to afford a Camaro ! One of the best value cars for the money on the planet !

cant wait till the 6th gen is put on the alpha platform for less weight and faster, better handling all around camaro. idk if they are still going to do that tho.

Ok so I have the auto SS and love it. It's very fast and holds its own at the strip. But around a road course... Manual all the way!
Of course the Merc wasn't a manual but it is top of the line and a MT isn't an option. I have a 2006 SL55 AMG and it's fast but I take the Camaro 9 times outta 10. So anyone here want my Merc? I need Z28 money lol

Actually no, taking a Hennessey, Lingenfelter, or SLP car wouldn't be fair.....it would be totally utter rape. The only thing the AMG would outclass any performance shop's Camaro in would be LUXURY. Not performance.

Im mainly just pointing out my opinion which seems to be the general consensus here on the forum that they messed up with the comparison.
Either way im glad it got some tv time especially on a big automotive show like Top Gear.
Only thing that bums me is they didnt used the best package that the Camaro has to offer. They are all about manuals on Top Gear.

AMG is a division of Mercedes. Not really a third party tuner.

I hope the camaro gets back on the show again down the road with the LS3 M6 model or some high performance verison
