Z28 News!

The owner of the dealer I but my cars from was at a GM meeting this past week to go over new and future models. He said the Z28 was confirmed and he was told could be out as early as 1st Quarter 2011 as a 2012 model. Production was rumored, at the meeting, to be starting Nov - Dec 2010 if all goes well. It was said they want to get the car out with the Verts maybe even earlier. But Gm fully expects to have a Z28 on the streets by mid 2011.They also talked about the new Silverados with their new frames and design. Also the meeting confirmed the new Vette to be due out in 2013 (60th Anniversary) as a 2014 model and they also confirmed the new platform for the 6th Gen Camaro. The 6th Gen is probably gonig to be out 2014 as a 2015 model from what they were told but GM didn't go into to much detail on the 6th Gen. But, it looks like our Z28 is real and is right around the corner! :happyanim:

I trust my dealer and I know the owner for over 15 years and know he wouldn't lie to me. The times and dates are subject to change he told me, but he said a Z28 is no doubt confirmed and is being planned for a 2011 launch as a 2012 model.

I almost always take dealer speculation or insider information with a grain of salt, but with that being said...

LostInMoscow 05-30-2010 10:28 AM

He didn't happen to mention anything about what kind of engine it was going to have in it did he?

AZCamaroFan 05-30-2010 10:37 AM

This all sounds right on with what we've heard in other places.

The upcoming Gen5 Z28 is one of the worst-kept secrets in the automotive world, ranking right up there with the return of the 5.0 in the Mustang. As the OP, and many others have stated, it is simply a decision (and a good one. IMHO) by the GM marketing group to hold off on any "official" announcement until the convertibles are out and about and there are a good 100-200K base/SS Camaros running the roads.

I can't wait to get my hands on one.

I know everyone is waiting to hear about z/28, but from if my memory holds true, wasnt the SS always one step ahead of the Z. Doesnt seem right to come out with another that would be faster and better than the SS. I could see making the exterior diffrent, to set them apart, but IMHO I think the SS should be the baddest of the 2.

Historically, the SS was king of the strip and the Z28 was released as a track car to compete in the SCCA trans am race. One rule of the race was, whatever car a manufacturer entered also had to be available to the public. The Z28 had a smaller engine (302) with a longer stroke that revved high and cornered like crazy. Chevy won it in 68 and 69.

So, they could potentially re-release it with that twin turbo V6 with upgraded suspension, which would be a hot, fast car...and fall inline with EPA requirements.

Lotsa guys would be pissed though.

This is great news. I was about to post the same thing. My dealer called me today and said the same thing. My family has purchased cars from him for about 40 years, so I have no reason to believe he would be lying.
