Looking to buy a 67-69 Camaro
 

I am a proud owner of a 2010 Camaro. I am now looking to treat myself to a present of either a 67-69 Camaro or a 70-72 Chevelle. I am pretty much just looking on ebay for cars of those years in my area. The problem I am coming across is the wide range in pricing from $10000 - $80000 in the asking and selling prices. I am trying to figure out how do you know if you found a good deal when you locate it because there is no blue book on cars that old.

I saw this 67 Camaro uploaded on ebay yesterday and it is pretty sweet looking. It is a SS Clone though. Can somebody tell me if the asking price is fair on this listing. Also I would like to know what I should be targeting to pay for a restored Camaro of those years and even the 70-72 Chevelle I like to.

A first gen Camaro is an expensive toy. Even the rolling, rusting cages will cost about $8,000, but when they're shown a lot of TLC, they're the most beautiful car on the road.
It really depends on what you want. If you're going to take it to shows and try make it a real winner, you'll want to aim for an original SS. If it's just for looks and fun, a clone is just as good considering you'd be the only one to know it wasn't a real SS.
Price really comes down to the year you want. A 1969 Camaro will generally cost more than a 1967 or 1968, and an SS/RS will generally cost more than a normal SS.
As for that particular bid, if you're going to pay $25,000 for a clone, you're paying too much. Right here a '67 RS/SS Convertible going for $28,500.
Also, options do tend to work their way into price. The more options it has, the higher the price is going to be. With this in mind, it might be best to stick to the bare essentials. Considering you're in Anaheim, I'm going to say that you try get A/C, if anything. CA summers are the worst! :P

On a side note, you could also look at CraigsList, AutoTrader, or even Recycler. You'll find some local cars there and it's even better considering you get to go look at the cars in person.

Ebay is not the best place to look. I say this because #1 if there on ebay the seller knows and cares about what they have. #2 you never get a good deal on a car from ebay. my sugestion is look around where you live. there are cars everywhere you just have to find them if you want a good deal. now if you just want to by a car and be done with it ebay or other for sale places is fine. i did a quick search on craigs list for 69 camaros as i do everyday i found 13 different ones from 7-15k and they are nice drivers.


As for finding a good price...it completly depends on the car. rust is not a good thing, but if your going to restore it and you find a great deal on the car its not a deal breaker. do you want a v8 car originally or a do you care if it was or still is a 6cy? the vin will tell you if it was a v8 or a 6cy.

the ebay car your looking at is nice and you couldnt build it for 24k but i wouldnt pay more than 18-20 for it. but thats just me. in my opinion the 69 is the nicest looking, and the 70-73 drive the best. 67-73 i would own any of them again.. ( didnt answer your question.... just thinking out loud)

My uncle just sold his fully restored 67 ssrs with a 396 for close to 40k.

That is a nice car, but remember...

67 didn't have the cowl hood nor the spoiler. If you are willing to pay big dollar, then make sure you are not getting a clone.

25k for a 67 clone is high.


69s will be more than the 67 and 68s...
RSs will be more than SS
True Zs will be more than all the rest.

If you can find a Z28/SS or Z28/RS or SS/RS then you will pay more for both packages combined.

You should find a decent restored daily driver 69 for less than 20k.

since you are in Calif you have to watch emmissions. you can go to reno next august to check out the silver car auction & the swapmeet at HAN or even during the Longbeach HAN.

Expensive clone alert. Some good advice here. I disagree with RS being more valuable than SS and there was no Z28/SS.

In my opinion buy the best clone you can find for the least amount. In fact I think resto-rods are the most fun since you can do any mod without worrying about losing value. For example, an LS1 powered early Camaro is a blast and you can take advantage of modern technology as you wish to build something really unique.

Watch alot of Mecum Auto Auction shows... It really depends on if its all original, has Mods or a clone. Best bet redo one your self.

I would look local maybe on craigslist or AutoTrader....

They are hard to come by and if it is in good shape it will cost a pretty penny.....

Do some online research on the Barrett-Jackson auctions. Better still, try to attend one or more of their actual auctions and you can see, and judge for yourself, the quality and sale prices of the cars that you are primarily interested in. It also helps to mingle wih the pros there. You might get lucky and find your car at a reasonable price, particularly on the first two days of the auction. Good luck!

Depends on your budget.

I have an all factory original 1969 real 302 Z28 40k on the clock, interior in cherry condition, paint in well 40 year old condition she has some scratches and she will need to painted if you plan to do any 1000pt car shows. The only upgrades on the car are AR TT2 classics and a different drivers side mirror (still have oem one in the box).

I turned down 65k two weeks ago just to give you an idea what one is worth.

Wow Dude I just sold my 68 camaro about 6 months ago for $8k I practically gave it away for that price, I do miss it but dont miss working on it all the time, I am ready to just go buy a new one and drive it and not have to tinker with it.

And just to add to the notion of the '69s being expensive, my dad's true RS/SS with factory deluxe interior, A/C, cluster gauges, power windows, rear window defroster, fold-down back seat, and 12-bolt rear end, restored with a "427" (489; but most people don't know that. ;)) and painted Rally Green with white Z/28 stripes (I guess going for the Z11 look) saw an $80k offer last month at a car show; guy said he could have the money by next month too.
Mind you, all original will always beat restored in terms of price, with the possible exception of a full rotisserie restoration, but the '69s will always run high nonetheless.
