FrankT's single Turbo Aqua Blue 2SS

I thought I'd post my experience of owning a 2010 Camaro. While this is by no means my first new car, it is starting to become quite a story. And, as you tell by my signature, I won't be able to leave it stock. A lot of what I'll be doing won't be a first (other people have beat me to it), I have learned from their experiences. I hope some of you may learn something from mine...

First of all, the avatar pic is at the now closed Doug Jones Chevrolet in Benson, NC. Not even the signs remain now. This had been a small town dealer in business for (I believe) over 30 years. It has changed names over the years, but the core people remained and offered the best buying and customer service experience I have ever experienced. The 2010 Camaro was about the 22nd car I had bought there. My car was the last car to ever be invoiced to the dealer. It arrived three days after the dealer closed, and had to be transferred to another local dealer that was still in business. That dealer honored the original deal on the car. It was bought for GM Supplier price (credit union member discount). Afterward, Doug Jones himself gave me the Manufacturers Statement of Origin (MSO) for the car. It had been invoiced at that time to Doug Jones Chevrolet. In case any of you don't know, the MSO is sent in to DMV with the title application. The dealer where it was transferred was sent another MSO invoiced to their dealership which was sent with the title app.

Well, the first mod I did was to tune it. Used my EFI Live and turned off the skip-shift, fans on earlier, top speed limiter off, and manipulated the timing curve. Soon after, replaced the factory mufflers with SLP's Loudmouth II. Worked pretty well with a 370RWHP and 365 lb/ft.

Now comes the want for more power (it seems to always happen)... This time, I wanted to do something a little different. So, I decided to so single turbo this time. I had already changed the mufflers to SLP's Loudmouth II. Loved the sound, but don't think it made a lot more HP. Maybe 4 or 5, definately not enough to feel the difference. I had a place in FL do the turbo for me. A few issues with the work they did, but nothing I couldn't remedy myself. Car is running fine now. Upgraded the clutch to Fidanza 7.6 with aluminum flywheel. Best HP clutch I have had yet. Very driveable. Added the Hurst aftermarket short throw shifter. I love this shifter! Went with the black engraved ball, and the old school chrome stick.

Also, I've added BMR's trailing arms, they do seem to help with the traction issues. At least the car seems to be more stable under full power acceleration now. Widened stock wheels are on the way from ADM. Actually, the tire situation is going to improve dramatically in the next few days. The stock polished rear wheels will get Nitto 555R drag radials for the strip or just to horse around. The extra set of wheels (RS midnight silver) are going to be the widened ones. Move the rear wheels to the front, and the new widened (10.75") will get Pirelli Zero 305/35 ZR 20 tires. Keeping the sleeper look for now.

MBRP 3" exhaust has been installed. Easy installation. Did it myself in about an hour and a half. A little raspy sounding and pretty loud, but not nearly as loud as my ZO6. Not too bad inside the car. I can still use hands-free for my cell. Dyno time coming within the next week or so.

I made it to the local eighth mile dragstrip this week. I only made the one run before getting kicked off the track for no helmet. I wanted a baseline before I put on the drag radials. My car is the left lane...

I almost felt sorry for the mustang in the right lane. Thought he was going to beat up on a new Camaro. And after he turned his nitrous on and everything. He didn't know about the turbo on my car until it was too late...

Nice mph, you definitely need those drag radials. Love the color too!
