Halltech Yellow Jacket Install Question?

I have looked around a little bit, but haven't seen an answer to two questions I have about installing the CAI.

1. There is a plastic cover that appears to be part of the old intake system in front of the radiator behind the SS logo. Should that be removed?

2. There is a rubber hose attached to the intake tube and I'm not sure exactly how I should hook that up to the old air hose.

Thanks for the help in advance guys. :)

Not sure about the plastic cover....maybe Jim can chime in on that one.

As far as the rubboer hose goes, it will go on the same PCV hose that you unplugged from the factory intake. Leave the factory one alone until the last thing.

I would also suggest that you put the Halltech supplied one on the Halltech tube prior to installing the tube. When I put mine on I pushed a little to hard and pushed the rubber grommet all the way through. I then had to remove the tube in order to fish it out.

Once you have pretty much every thing installed you can take the Halltech supplied hose and kind of match it up with the factory PCV line you pulled off the factory intake. Leave about an extra 1" or so of the factory PCV line and then cut the rest off with a pair of dykes. Just remember you can always take more off....you can't put it back on. So, error on the side of the factory PVC line. Then just push the Halltech rubber hose onto the factory PCV line. It should be pretty tight in order to make a seal without the use of hose clamps.

Hopefully that makes sense. Wish I would've taken more pics during my install but I didn't.

Thanks for the info caverman. I figured that's what needed to be done with the hose, but wasn't too sure.

The tip about leaving it on was something I probably would have learned the same way. Thanks.

If that cover in the filter area is a squarish tube that extends out into the filter area, it comes out. Don't know about any cover in the grill though.

I did remove that part axis. The one I'm describing is on the front side of the radiator. I took some pictures of the install. Hopefully it helps others.

Factory air box removed (notice the hose with the arrow, I had to bend that a bit to get the Halltech box to fit):

Halltech Airbox with the factory rubber grommit installed:

Heat shield installed:

Halltech tube installed (Take note putting the tube through is a bit tough, there is a notch on the bottom of the hole that is in the heat shield that allows the MAF sensor holder to fit through. If you don't notice it, you'll spend a while trying to get the pipe through the hole.):

Tube installed with hose clamps tightened (Use the provided grease to fit the rubber tube over the Halltech tube.):

All done :happyanim: MAF installed and connected, the little air hose is attached and the engine cover is back on:

Hope this helps anyone else installing this toy.

I just took the car for a drive, and it didn't throw any codes or act strangely. I'll give it some time for the computer to figure out it can breathe better. I also tightened the clamps and the little air hose after letting everything heat up.

I'm still curious if I should remove the plastic thing on the front though.

Cool....glad to see you got it installed with no real issues.

Looks like the new hole in the tabs are aligning better now. Post your opinion on it after you've driven around a couple days. Some people say it makes the engine a little louder (not sure that I heard much of a difference). I do however think that the decel popping was reduced after I installed it. It's still there just not as much. I think mine decreased a good 30%-40%.

Ok....so here are a couple suggestions just because I'm being a picky SOB. This is totally up to you but this is what I would suggest:

1. The hose clamp that is used to connect the hose to the throttle body....I would take that off, flip it so that the tightening mechanism is on the right side.
I would push it down as far as you can and still be able to tighten it so that it's out of the way. Same thing with the hose clamp on your filter. Flip
it so that it's on the other side an push it down as far as you can and still get to it. I just think it looks cleaner when they are somewhat hidden.

2. Go down to the local Hobby shop and buy a $3 paint pin (I like yellow for Yellow Jacket), take off the tube so you can work with it on a bench or table,
and carefully color the Halltech in yellow. You'll have to do about three coats to get it to not have the black bleed through. It just makes the tube POP in my opinion.

You can use a fine point sharpie to touch up if you accidentally get off the lettering but it would best if you didn't have to. Take your time an keep a steady hand.

Here is a pic of mine so you get an idea.

 NICE!

It's about time someone did a video. Thanks for taking the time to do that. Wish that was available before I bought mine.

BTW: that's the best price I've seen for the Halltech as well...:respekt:
Had to bookmark your site after seeing that.

I will say that I cut my PCV line so that I could tuck the line up under the engine cover. I'll probably never put the factory setup back on and worst case scenario is that I (or really someone else...I'm not taking the Halltech off) can buy another one.

LemmingRush 04-19-2010 10:12 PM

Thanks for the tips. Yours does look cleaner. I'll have to check out that pen thing.

axis 04-19-2010 10:56 PM

Yes, you need to cut the PCV line to tuck under the cover. I'm thinking I cut mine near the bend in the pipe. As for the line you "arrowed", the heat shield goes between that and the car rail. Essentially, that hose should be on the outside of the shield. Where the metal part of that line crosses over the rail, is where it should go in the "notch" of the shield. It looks good.

I"m still not sure what plastic piece you're talking about but if there is one that is removeable, it would allow more fresh air into the heatshield. That equates to lower temps and more HP.

Just ordered my Yellow Jacket from SouthernCarParts last night. Can't wait to hook it up. The factory air box sucks! I'll post up my comments on the install this weekend (hopefully).

I think Jim is having a sale this week for the same price.
