How to Slay a GT500!

I'm not too mechanically inclined but this recent summer article in "Camaro Now" helped explain how the different stage kits from "TORQ's" can unleash your stock ZL1's potential... If there is anyone else on this forum who is new to this stuff, maybe this will shed some light on these "bolt on" packages... cheers!
here are some pics I took on my camara of the mag article....hope you can manage to read it fine... note: click the bar above the picture to make them bigger and easier for reading...

I don’t think that it’s a good idea to chase the 13-500s hp numbers. As you can see even with all those mods the ZL1 only managed 560 rwhp in this article, while the 500 usually sees 600-620 rwhp stock. If the 500 adds a pulley and tune and they are sitting at 680. So you get the idea. Instead I think you are better off to work on getting your car to be more efficient, learn how to launch and drive it. Last week a member here drove a stock ZL1 with DRs to an 11:50s pass. That pass would beat 90% of the stock 13-500s out there. IMO this is much more impressive than somebody throwing a bunch of dollars at their car to boast about hp numbers.

I gotta say I totally agree. With a pulley,CAI,TB and tune those 500's are seeing over 100rwhps gains as well. With less work; no exhaust, porting or cooling mods.

On the other hand more power is always a good thing :happy0180::thumbup::headbang:

Not sure if the GT500, stock, is putting down 620rwhp on a Mustang Dyno? Regardless, the additional HP coming from the GT500 (stock) cost you $5k more than the ZL1 (Stock). $5k can get you a lot of HP with proper cooling on the ZL1.

Ok. Take a corner yes, but. Ok in the first Fast and Furious there is the winning is winning crap. I still say the ZL1 is the superior car between it and the GT500 and the GTR. Because dollar for dollar its a better car. Meaning you throw the price difference between a ZL1 and a GT500 (with all the track pack and cooling stuff that ZL1 comes standard with) and now ZL1 lays down a better time at everything.

GTR? Ok well any car that the warranty is voided as soon as you turn off the nannies is a piece of crap. Plus. Can you imagine throwing $30,000 into a ZL1 to match the GTR price. Horsepower off the chart. Total suspension job, weight reduction, my god.

Bottom line is that the ZL1 going faster than a GT500 in a straight line is just a matter of HP, the GT500 will never be as track worthy. Next Gen Mustang though, with IRS, the game might be on.

Good article though, I might take a look at some of there stuff.

Hahaha awesome meme :sm0::sm0::sm0:. New background material worthy.

The base MSRP of the GT500 is cheaper and there is no additional HP coming from any option box you can check off the GT500 order sheet. I thought we've gone over this a million times on this website :noidea:

RedCamaroZL1 05-22-2013 04:32 PM

You can make any car fast if you throw enough money at it....

The base price of both is within $500 of each other, but when you option them up, the GT500 is way more. Plus, the Ford dealers won't budge on price. I test drove the Shelby with all the options I wanted and it was $67,090. My ZL1 stickered at $58,444. I paid $56,000 and had $1500 on my GM card, so $54,500.
I think they are both awesome cars, but I don't think the GT500 is $67090 awesome. It should cost 60 even, with all the options.

I agree the GT500 stock is not putting down 620 rwhp, it is make 662 hp at the block which compares to the ZL1's 580 hp at the block. 620 rwhp would be close to 745 hp at the block - do not think so at all!

Complete, all I`m waiting on is my new nitto`s for the back next week. 315 drag radials to get a little traction with 700rwhp and 694trq...
