Use XM shark fin for Sirius?
Does anyone know if it's possible to use the XM Shark fin to pickup Sirius? I have a Sirius account as I'm in Canada. I have the Sportster model that I just have mounted I'm my Monte Carlo with the magnetic antena on the roof. I would like to put the unit in my Camaro and utilize the shark fin if possible.
I hate the fact my car is built an hour away from me in my own country yet I only have the choice of a factory stereo capable of XM and not Sirius. A rumour has it tho a deal may be coming soon to allow that but who knows. |
XM and Sirius have been merged for a while now. All you have to do is transfer your account to your car's head unit ID and if you want Stern or NFL or whatever, you just pay a bit more for that package.:w00t:

All I can say is that I was able to get a cable and use my XM radio with a Sirius ant. in my wife's MINI.
That being said..... I read that a Sirius antenna works better for an XM radio then an XM antenna on a Sirius radio. It has to do with the freq. wave length. |
The antenna performance may be slightly degraded over a stock Sirius antenna, but it will work. You just need to break out the antenna cable, and then adapt it to your Sportster.

They are now one company I thought.

The hardware probably won't be merged for another 5 yrs min |
i did this in my caddy. the xm box was right behind the glove box. i unplugged it from there and it plugs right into my sirus starmate 1. I ran a switched power to the glove box so now my head unit just sits in the glove box. i get shitty fm radio now not sure if its b/c of that or not.
