Aisin 6 speed in Subaru BRZ "Miata-esque"

In the current issue of Motor Trend, they review the Subaru BRZ. It states the 6 speed manual tranny is an Aisin unit. They describe it as Miata-esque which I am assuming is a good thing.

Do they use the AY6 like we do? If so, what did they do differently to make it so much better than what we have?

We have done some parts for these cars for the Pro-Drift circuit. the car was made in conjunction with Toyota. the rear axles are a hybrid of both STI and Supra, I'm not sure on the trans as most of them have changed the stock units out

So after more research, looks like they are getting the AZ6.

From the article:

Internet research (including Wikipedia) reveals a veritable cornucopia of vehicles that use the AZ6: Honda S2000, Mazda RX-8, 2nd-gen (NB) Mazda MX-5 Miata, the final S15 Nissan Silvia Spec-R… and the Toyota Altezza/Lexus IS 200!

Hopefully it is stronger because if not its going to suck for them when the grinding starts.
