Automatic Shifter Handle Install
I received my shift handle from forum sponsor CFD this week. This handle replaces the factory shifter on the L99 Automatic and will accommodate an aftermarket shift ball or handle. I decided to switch over to the LS3 manual boot. Installation is straight forward and can be done in 15 minutes.
First step is to remove the bezel/gauge pod around the shifter. It unclips by lifting up. There is a wire harness to unplug in the left rear. http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n...psb473513a.jpg http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n...ps988f1b59.jpg Next the shift handle is removed. There is a small plug on the front side of the shifter. With this removed the 20 torx screw can be removed. The handle will pull up and off the shift mechanism. http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n...psced099e1.jpg There are four 7mm screws that hold down the shifter trim. With these removed the shift bezel will unclip. http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n...ps28be7caf.jpg The CFD shifter is supplied with an O-ring and screw. Install the O-ring over the factory shifter, apply a small amount of grease to the top plastic lever and install the CFD shifter. Then tighten the supplied screw. http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n...ps7e6a4a7e.jpg I decided to install the LS3 manual shift boot. There is a machined groove in the shift handle that will help hold the boot in place. On the inside I installed a zip tie that will secure the boot in the groove. http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n...ps6c7fb8a2.jpg The shift boot is then pulled down over the shifter and screwed into place. I chose a 100th anniversary logo ball from Speed Dawg. The over all look, fit, finish and function are great. All these pieces combined give the center console a very unique look for an automatic. http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n...ps37e385b0.jpg |
looks good.is there a button on the ball to engage the gears like the oem knob?
The shifter pushes down to engage out of Park.
That looks awesome, how does one go about obtaining one of these?

Here's some pic of they way it will look after the mods to the boot. |
Yes, there was a small gap between the boot and the top of the bezel. After a few adjustments and a slight modification the gap is gone.

George makes good stuff. I have one of his shifters with the tap-shift buttons on the side. Best mod for the money on the L99.

either my screw is stripped or im losing it but when taking out the torx screw i cant get it to budge, ive been unscrewing it for almost 10 minutes and have had nothing. any ideas?
It just keeps turning and turning nothing happening, and it cant be stripped because it would come out...
Ya try and pull it off it is probably loose but stuck in the hole. Pull the handle off and bang it out or use a small magnet to get it out.
I love it...I just ordered one in black.
My shifter screw to the original handle fell inside assembly anyway to take out
