2014 SS 427

I fooled you didn't I?:sorry:

Bare with me please...(or just skip to the BOLD BUT...)

I want to know everyone's thoughts on this now that photos of the 2014's are coming out and we all know about the Z/28

I followed the development of the 5th gen fairly closely. I remember the concept, as do we all, and the convertible concept. I was there in Indy 08, sat in a 320,000 mile mule car that was held together by duct tape. All I can remember is I didn't want to get out, but there was a line behind me so I kept my time all too brief(yes I was the one holding that line up).

Work kicked in, so did going back to school(after 30) and I didn't follow the Camaro so closely. I remember when they went into production, but I was too broke to buy one, and then the ZL1 and the Copo. Well I said I didn't really want all this plastic crap on the outside of the car, just go fast. So my buddy says they're making that, called the Copo. Little did he know, right.

So the ZL1 grew on me magically right about the time I got to where I could buy a Camaro, like fate, and I love it. I wouldn't give it up for anything, you'd have an easier time holding me down and pulling my teeth than getting me to trade my ZL1.

BUT....

How many of you would really just like a street brawler of a car, from the factory, with a warranty. Something, that if nothing else, would go to the 1/8 and 1/4 mile track and smoke any Ford.

What would that car be... Hmmmmmm....

Wide tires on the back, maybe not so much up front, 18" wheels at most, money could be saved by not putting so much of the expensive brakes and what not because we aren't going to wear them out with this car. It doesn't need a 1LE or ZL1 suspension.

Call it like it is, for me personally, I said STREET brawler, meaning I would drive it, so racing seats sure, but I still need my radio and AC, after all I live in Alabama and it's hot here. Plus with those systems that incorporate your AC into CAI or whatever, you know what I mean.

Engine? I'm gonna let you guys tell me. Has to be factory warrantyable, if that's a real word. How much power would it take, how light could this car be and still be a streetable, fun, daily driver.

How fast does it need to be? Needs to beat 11.6 seconds.

Guess what, everyone always says that Chevy won't put that much power in a Camaro because they won't want to step on the Corvette's toes, hurt their feelings, well I'm not talking about that, this car would be fun for crusing, seat four, go fast in a straight line, it's not gonna keep up with a Vette around the twisties, so leave that alone for this post please. Shoot the car I'm talking about wouldn't keep up with a ZL1 around the twisties, but would smoke it on a 1/4 mile track.

Like the old days, 6cyl, RS, Z/28, V8, SS350, SS396, SS396 again, all lined up next to each other, you could pick the 'maro for you

Chime in, Please

As much as I want to say "now guys, I put a lot of thought into this, so please take it seriously," nah, have fun with it.

I would love it if GM would offer the 427 as an engine option for the SS. A 1SS with a 427 would be sick and I think many would buy it. Nuff said. Why do I have to pay out the butt for a z/28 to get the 427.......

I think with a good set of tires and 530 at the wheels you could break 12.0 in the 1/4.......

So I see I'm not the only one that has thought about this:happy0180:

I would be happier with a factory supercharged option, for the street.

Give me the option of a SS427 and back to the dealer I will go. I have often wondered why GM would not let us option the engine of choice for an upcharge ?

Oh GM ( Scott ) hear our dreams and let them come to life!!!!!

I kinda dont understand what a bunch of you guys are saying... they (chevy) have all what you want.
If its price thats the question then what most ppl say "You got to Pay to Play"
OP you have a ZL1 king of camaros what Im hearing is that you want a built car the way you like it... so why dont you bulid it then instead of waiting?
Chevy may have another engine option besides the 376 in the future maybe not but seems like the new LT1 will be in the camaro for mass production. A 427 or 454 will be for limited cars.

What a lot of ppl are asking I think is a lil greedy or selfish. Chevorlet cant please everyone. These are my opinions though. Kinda like me saying how come the SS didnt come supercharge?---zl1 or why isnt the SS more trackable---1le. ... in your case your asking for a street monster or "STREET brawler" with a warranty---BOOM z/28

hope I didnt come off anything besides sharing my opinion but I see and sometimes read a lot of these type of threads but I was awake 5am and a lil bored so i commented lol

I posted a question like this. MANY ppl would buy this without a blink or thought. There's only 1 small problem. CAFE. You'd have to make your other automobiles get much better gas mileage to compensate for the loss in avg mpgs throught the wntire fleet of autos. Is this possible? No doubt! Will they do it? Probably not.

Oh I'd love it! As much as I love my ABM I'd give it up for an SS427.

Yep...in a heartbeat

It's not really greedy or selfish. We just want the 427 engine option for the SS....we dont all need the z28. We just want the engine like the late 60s when you could option out a car....we're not asking for it to be cheap as the 376. We'll pay for the option to get the engine. I think it would be a great idea for gm to sell more cars.......there are a lot of us out there that would buy.

heavy ZL1's can do that with less rwhp.

Without a doubt, make AC and radio the only 2 options no power seats, just manual. No fancy anything. Just a 427 in the car. GM doesn't need to engineer anything as the SS can easily withstand the 500HP. Thing is, they won't do it. The SS sales with a reg. engine would definitely drop. They know that. Why not fork over $10000 more for an LS7 powered SS?

willhe64 05-01-2013 09:57 AM

I heard GM is putting a 3 cylinder deisel in the Cruze. That should help even out the fleet mpg.

Really? Interesting! GM! Where's my factory warrantied SS 427 camaro at? Come on! Snap! Snap! This should've been done from the get go. I prefer the look of my car with an LS7 rather than the redesign but ill take it a 2014 or 2015 SS427. I'm patient enough to wait 2 yrs lol.
