As promised, here is a shot of the full, 40" length driven by an LED on each end.

When you have the lengths specifically for the dash, I'll take an order.

sjmautoprod 12-13-2011 07:16 AM

Okay!

To clarify, due to the dimming seen in the middle of longer lengths, the solid stripe changes to a tuned pattern for better light distribution. I have asked for the length at which this change occurs.

We may end up stocking a version that can be cut down into "short" pieces along with specific lengths for other applications.

Saint Alban 12-13-2011 08:08 AM

I don't see any dimming in this pic, that's why I want it. Is that the full 40" pictured?

sjmautoprod 12-13-2011 09:07 AM

Heh, yes, that is what I posted.

bigwayne3000 12-13-2011 07:57 PM

I know that since these have to be cut equally that they arent usable for the dash but would these need to also be cut down for the doors or are they ok as is?

sjmautoprod 12-13-2011 08:42 PM

Hmm. I'm not yet sure about the length that is required for the doors. I'll check on this and report back!

PM me with a cost on enough pipe to do the dash and doors? LEDs available?

Shipped to 93611

so the pipe actually isn't 100% the same all the way across?

No, from what I understand, with LEDs attached to both ends (not included), the pipe has something midway through it to keep the light from dimming at the center. If you cut it shorter at one end, the center won't be the center anymore. So you have to cut it at both ends equally. This is why I'm gonna wait for exact sizes that I need.

This kicks-in at a certain length and I'm waiting to hear what that is. The piece for the driver side ABL would not have this feature since it's not long enough.

I'm with you on the waiting to see if you'll need to get a bigger piece so you can cut it equally on both ends . Then your just wasting tubing and $ . I'm sure the small piece needed for the drivers side on the panel won't have this issue.

Hopefully we'll be able to buy it just the right size without any concerns.

sjmautoprod 12-14-2011 07:27 AM

It's looking like the best thing is to have specific lengths made for each location and a separate version for modders that can be cut anywhere.

If you do the factory version (just the top), the length would be about 27".

Will do!

We can supply actual GM LED harnesses, or, our own version.

What are yours like in comparison? Colors, brightness, factory type harnesses connected or just a 5mm LED by itself?

scythezo6 12-14-2011 11:35 AM

Since the brightness fades along the length of the light pipe, is it possible to install it with the LED on the passenger side so that whole long strip across the dash can be pretty equally bright and then when it reaches the drivers side it fades off? To me the pass side should be brightest since more light will come from there.

but when you do the dash ABL you put an LED at both ends of the light pipe

If you want gm ice blue, or, the gm pipe fitting, it will be a gm harness. We can make versions with any other color, too.

We are currently looking at other LED/pipe coupling solutions as the common vinyl-tubing is very tight.

Revo1 12-14-2011 02:07 PM

Sounds great!

sjmautoprod 12-14-2011 06:12 PM

FYI, it looks like the stock setup for the doors would need 26.25" of flex pipe each. If you used two 40" pieces, you would have four pieces that were 6.5" left over for other things.

sjmautoprod 12-16-2011 10:49 PM

Before we send these back, is there anyone else that is interested in doing something with these besides the dash? Again, what we have are 40" rigid and flex pipes that are great for applications where about 27-40" can be used. Note that the stock 2LT/SS doors use about 26".

bigwayne3000 12-17-2011 02:01 AM

Ill wait for pipes that can be used as is and not have to worry about cutting it.
