80K and half my pads left

I'm having my brakes done for the 1st time at 80K miles and half the pads are still there. I decided to go ahead and have them replaced anyway since I already got Hawke HPS pads to replace them with. I am shocked that the factory pads lasted this long considering I don't baby my car....daily driver with a lot of hard starts and hard stops. Anyone else getting this kinda of mileage on the stock pads? Is it just the advancement in pad materials? Who supplies the stock pads, I wonder.

80K? nice. i hope i get those kind of miles on mine

Had Casper serviced at the local Chevy store............full brake inspection included. Nearly 46k and both front and rear pads measured out with 55% of the friction materials left. Rotors..no signs of defects or premature wear......Couldn't be happier :-)

I'm at 75,000km and should be good for another 6-8 months. Having a manual helps a lot too, but I'm impressed.

How much of those miles are highway ... I'd bet if they were all city stop and go, the front pads at least would be toast.

26k and my pads still look new. :thumb:

I assume mostly highway mileage? I have over 120k on my original pads and do 70% highway 29.5% back country roads and .5% actual city.

Mine have always been crazy squeaky, but can't complain about their performance, best brakes I've ever experienced!!!

Mostly city...lots of stop and go during daily commute and daily client visits around the city.

I've never had any brake noise at all....hope that doesn't change with the Hawke HPS pads.

Caspers2SSRS 10-31-2013 10:16 AM

Oh! Between 36k and 44 k Casper was plauged with plenty of brake squeal while in stop and go traffic (accounts for 50% of the use).......at minimum and at its worst, a bit annoying and embarrassing. Though no one else complained...but the bride who obsessively pointed the problem out from the passenger seat.......lol

I had considered replacing them in order I eliminate the issue. But after diligent research...........no other manufactures of similar performing replacements, guaranteed 100% that their pads would remain noiseless........ I opted not to throw the baby out with the bathwater, and reconsidered the likelihood that GM had chosen ( spent countless resources) the pads over others for good reason.

The issue eventually faded away ( no Pun intended) ..........currently the car doesn't suffer from those noisy issues.........the passenger doesn't complain, so I don't suffer either :-). The reality is the squeal never affected the overall or superior braking performance of the car. As mentioned earlier same pads, plenty of useful life left. All's good and quite.........

That's pretty impressive life for the stock pads! You must do a lot of down shifting. :thumb:

A6 - paddle down sometimes but typically in auto.

Same here, over 80k on the stock pads with 30-40% left.
