Chevy Sales

Some GM dealers have already begun auctioning the right to purchase the first 2009 Chevrolet Camaros on eBay. Currently, 'Buy It Now' prices sit between $20,000 and $25,000 (the amount the customer agrees to pay on top of the car's MSRP!!).

Back in May, some dealers began taking $1,000 deposits for the new Camaro. But, GM pressured the dealers to remove ads for down-payments, because production for the car had not yet been approved. However, following yesterday's official announcement that GM will build the Camaro, it seems the dealers are right back at it again.

As soon as we get allocations on the camaro, I will let you all know. I work at a dealership by seattle. By the way, since the camaro is getting the LS-2 6.0L engine, how soon do you think the corvette will bump up to the Z07? The Shelby Cobra already has 550hp, the LS7 (7.0L) only has 505hp? Any comments on that?

As reported in Motor Trend, the folks at Chevrolet are talking about a Corvette Sting Ray with the LS9 blown engine reportedly putting out 690HP. They're looking at a Ford GT killer, for a lot less money. By the way in a Car and Driver article about the Z06, they speculated that with a normal loss of 25% from the transmission, a 505 BHp Z06, the true engine HP is approx. 530.

MT reported the loss of somewhere between 12-15% on the Lingenfelter. 25% sounds awfully high for any vehicle, especially a sports car. Usually magazines report crank hp not wheel figures. (or so it seems)

Please let us know how the allocations work! As far as the Camaro getting the LS2, it's too early to tell if that will be THE engine. Chevy has numerous engines to put in there right now and will be coming out with even better engines over the next couple of years. What is the Z07? The Z06?...with the LS7 505hp engine? Chevy is already taking care of that by making the Blue Devil supercharged LS7...600hp. Same vette w/ upped motor.:burnrubber:

that car will be soooooo sick!

I'm going to take a ride to my dealer where I ordered the SS and see what information he has regarding the new Camaro.

As for the upcoming engines, I'm under the impression that by the time the car reaches production, there will be a different engie other than the LS2 for the Camaro.

As for the Shelby Cobra. In a recent comparison between the Shelby and a Corvette C6, the C6 was fractionaly quicker in 0-60 and 1/4 mile times. A C6 ZO6 would widen those times against a Shelby.

Moose, anything new come up from your dealer? And for the engines, I agree that GM will have a new Ford killer ready to go. I can't wait to see what they offer up!

I had an 05 c6 vette and it was definitly faster than the new shelby gt>
The shelby weigh's almost 4000 pounds and my c6 vette only 3100 pounds ,even though the shelby has 505 hrp it has a lot to carry, not only that production wise the shelby does not have the take off power compared to my 05 vette (by the way the reason i no longer have the vette is because I was hit in the rear by a drunk 19 yr old kid while sitting at a red light and he did 28000 dollars worth of damage to it after only having it 2 months)
I would like to see the real race in the quarter mile between stock to stock cars...:laughabove:

I didn't get to make it there yet, but hopefully I'll be there by Saturday at the latest. If I find out anything I'll be sure to post it right away.

We went ahead and stopped by the dealer today. As far as any new information, they said, "Well, the concept was unveiled at the Detroit Auto Show and GM announced it's plans to build it". At that point, I was hesitant to ask if there was anything new. Of course, they had no idea. I don't blame them. I gave them a little history about my purchasing 4 cars from them. They said they would do what it takes to keep me a life long customer and make sure I get my Camaro from them.

They speculated an outcome of approx 70% V6's and the rest Z28's and SS's. They continued to say that since Ford has an engine that currently will outdo the LS2, GM must offer up something to top it. We already guessed that as well. The kicker is that dealers have allocations (which was mentioned by DAVE) which they must live with. If they get 25 V6's, 5 Z-28's, and 2 SS's, you can bet that an SS will be on the showroom floor. Ancira said they only get an allocation of 2 Z06's per year. He continued to say that this is the reason Ford will have a GT500 sitting on their showroom floor for months at chingos of dollars above sticker. He also expressed his unhappiness with dealers who pull the 20K above sticker price. Not much more was said except that they seriously hope to be able to sell me what I want at a good price. He ended it by saying IT ALL DEPENDS ON ALLOCATION!
