UFC 118: Randy Couture vs. James Toney (MMA vs. Boxing)
Who will win?
I can't decide!!! |
Hey, thanks for starting the thread!! Haven't had one in a long time, so it's good to bring back some discussion. I think Couture should not try to stand and exchange blows with Toney. He needs to take him to the ground and do some ground and pound.
|
I think Randy is smart enough to stay away from the stand up. I have to say he will take it.
|
I'm leaning toward Couture but, if Toney lands a punch...
The gloves are going to make a difference too. Toney is going to really feel the hits due to the MMA gloves, but then he will be wearing MMA gloves also. I just don't know... :iono: |

this fight is stupid it will be exactly like when kimbo slice tried to get into the ufc and we all know what happend, he didnt make it very far although i am i kimbo fan...
|
IMO boxers (which is what kimbo was, a standup fighter) will have no chance against a well rounded MMA fighter expesially like randy
|
Toney has NO chance against Couture...
|
Bottom line. If Captain America is able to take Lights Out down to the mat, LO will panic as he experiences for the first time what it is like to be on his back while someone is pummelling hard punches and elbows to your face or trying to break your arm in two pieces.
If Capt America tries to do his dirty boxing and fight standing up, he will experience for the first time what it is like to go toe to toe against a world class boxer who is almost impossible to hit squarely and can knock people out cold with 1 punch. If he thinks the knockout punch he took from the Iceman was hard, he better not get caught by one of Toney's. I like Randy Couture but I am picking James Toney to win by knockout stoppage. |

I was kind of a Kimbo fan; not too much into street fighting though. After watching Kimbo on TUF I'm more of a fan now. He really showed that he was there to learn and he knew that he was not in the same league as the other guys, but was humble about it.
I don't think I would compare Kimbo to a world class boxer. Training to go 15 rounds in a ring is not the same as chasing someone in a backyard for 10 minutes. The thing about this fight is, either guy could get one lucky punch, and the fight is over. Not giving either guy a chance to show the full potential of their discipline. I would like to see this fight with two middleweights or lightweights! ffrcobra_65, you beat me to it!!! |
Not to change the topic too much, but who do you think will win the Penn vs. Edgar fight?
I would want Penn to win this time around, but Edgar's got a good chance to win again  |

Then looking at the stats afterwards, BJ did more work. (So I guess I disagree with the judges! - this part edited!) Attachment 158172 Back to your question. I think BJ is going to try and finish this fight in the first round to make a statement; which is, Edgar is not at BJ's level. If he doesn't he will be gassed and we will see the same fight as before! Also, BJ relies on talent more than conditioning, so if he gasses and Edgar (does the same as last time, with the same judges, he will win! - edited also!) |
Wow, my last post was full of fail before I edited it. I was thinking Penn won the first fight by decision. I guess I thought he should had won and so, I remembered him as winning!
 |
