Lifter Tick? (video)
I am hearing a ticking noise (pretty sure it's normal) on my LS3, not sure if I'm paranoid because my oil pump just failed and any little noise scares the hell out of me now...just want to make sure.
I installed JRE's 445 cam package which include Comp Cams dual valve springs and the trunion upgrade quite some time ago (amazing upgrade) and for some reason I'm thinking the ticking got worse... Please watch video of both the engine and I also recorded a clip of underneath the car near the cats (ARH long tubes with high flow cats) where the tick is most noticeable. Just want to make sure nothing is wrong. Thanks, Steve Engine: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oJzI4eNmG0I Underneath: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lfpeGWgU8c8 |
Sounds like a noisey ass LS valvetrain to me. Normal, especially with a cam.

That is your new valvetrain, stronger springs make more noise

Sexy.

Do the comp cam trunnion upgrade and that will take care of it.

I have the same cam package and have the same noise with 4000 miles on it. It's just the valvetrain and it's normal.

LOL Mine is bone stock and sounds like that. My wifes LS1 GTO sounds like that. My IVgen sounded like that.
Its the LS motor sewing machine. AT least the pistons are a bit quieter in the LS3 vs the LS1. |
That tick is no where near as loud as the 6.0 L76 I had in my G8, it sounded like that brand new and after a cam upgrade, your LS3 sounds normal to me.
