I drove it from the truck into the building....felt shorter than mine,

Subtle. I like it. But I still like mine better ;)

franknbeans 08-30-2010 04:41 PM

question. . . is the factory Hurst the same as the after market one?

Different shifter, the aftermarket has a shorter throw than the factory unit.

SSOOCH 08-30-2010 04:43 PM

Nope. Factory is 25% shorter throw. Hurst Billet / Plus 2 Shifter is 44% shorter.

If you really want the Hurst to show up on your window sticket get the factory. If you want the best in performance get the Plus 2. (as far as Hurst goes, I'm not arguing if the Barton or the PFADT or the MGW or others are better).

franknbeans 08-30-2010 04:51 PM

I have the after market one and OMG does it wobble. . . When in gear, the play left and right is about 1".

Hi Becky :help:
The shifter looks good. Do you have the GM part number for the factory Hurst shifter. I would like to get the factory one but my dealer keeps giving me the Hurst part #3916030. I want to order it from a GM supplier, not from Hurst.
Thanks
Don

Already checked on it for myself and no luck yet.
As soon as I get the availability, and I will get it!!, I'll let you know.
You can send my parts manager:
MaureenM@RodgersChevrolet here on the forum a PM and she'll put you on the list!!

fisherssmoke 08-30-2010 08:48 PM

I just got back from my first test drive with the part #3916030 hate it hate it. It wobbles something terrible. The feel is great and looks good too. The install was pretty easy about an hour and a half. But man if this is how its gonna be--I will be taking it out. I wonder if there is a differance in the items, the box just says Billet Plus...not Billet Plus 2

Any help on this???

Looks really good............if I owned a M6, this would be on it! :respekt:

armysig 08-30-2010 10:14 PM

I've installed the Bartons and I love it. I have had a few other people drive my car and they said it felt to mechanical for them. I guess if you're not use to this type of shifter it feels out of place. I have the adjustment as low and I could get it and it feels a ton different than stock.

I would love to test out the new Hurst, I love the stock look. That's what I went for when I picked up the Bartons.

pogiskier 08-31-2010 02:09 AM

I Just orderd my car today. A 2ss/rs with the Hurst. I'm excited. It's my first car. I have allways had an old truck or suv.

Z28RockStar 08-31-2010 02:31 AM

I like the look, I believe I'd prefer the one from Hurst though, shorter throw FTW! ;)

Mass SS 08-31-2010 04:39 AM

Is this an option or are all M6s this way in 2011?

UnknownWarrior 08-31-2010 04:54 AM

The only difference is the small emblem

False.

BTW, you can throw the stock knob on the Barton short throw.

I agree with SSOOCH. Ours has zero problems with 800 miles so far.Was dealer installed before I took delivery of the car.

Scrappy Doo 08-31-2010 06:55 AM

Like the look of the aftermarket hurst better.

Mine either. It feels nice and firm. No wobble, no slop, no vibration with mine. I didn't even use the attenuating material that came with mine.

300chopper 08-31-2010 07:33 AM

I installed the aftermarket hurst and love it. Much better feel than stock.

Lbness 08-31-2010 07:33 AM

I have a factory Hurst in my 02 and it is noisy I hope they fixed that.. I put a Barton in my 2010 and love it. Play? yes it loosens up a bit but I found the flex to be in the factory linkage but not enough to worry about.

Greenrail ... you may want to be sure and save the " attenuating material"

greenrail 08-31-2010 07:37 AM

I save just about everything. I even still have my original mufflers and engine cover

It's from the white bushings at the lower part of the shifter.
they crush down from use..asked hurst about it and they said they have not had any complaints but I shimmed mine but now the play is back just not as much..hurst sent me new bushings but that is not the fix..need and firmer or solid type of bushing like the factory one..So their is no side to side action..

Neither does mine. I'd get that checked.

vincewalthers 08-31-2010 08:11 AM

I've been debating whether or not to get the aftermarket or the gm.. I have until Christmas to decide on my Xmas present lol
