Are we giving up on the Z28?
So, I'm feeling a bit disheartened that there has been no news whatsoever from GM regarding the Z/28.
I feel like the Z/28 is such a storied nameplate in GM history, and I just can't understand why GM is pretty much "ignoring" it. Should I give up any hope that there will ever be a Z/28 5th gen? Is the ZL-1 "it"? The ZL-1 seems like it should be the top dog, and the Z/28 should be in the middle between the ZL-1 and the SS. If there was ever going to be a Z/28, why wouldn't they release that one first, and save the ZL-1 for last? Is it more important for GM to have a GT500 fighter, vice a Boss 302 fighter? (seems like that's where the Z/28 should fit in) To GM: I get it, there are only a certain amount of resources to allocate the development of so many models. I understand the historical significance of the ZL-1 nameplate. However, I think you are missing the mark on this one. IMHO, the Z/28 name means so much more, to a much wider demographic of customer, than the ZL-1 will. Many people know about the original ZL-1, and they know of the significance of it, but MOST people do not. Even non car enthusiasts have heard of the Z/28 and can tell you what it is. You can't say the same thing about the ZL-1. I will close with this: GM, thank you for giving us the 5th gen Camaro. It's a magnificent piece of automotive art. Thank you for developing the ZL-1 and bringing it to market, I think it will also be a grand slam home run to a certain customer demographic. But for me, and I'm sure many others, the lack of a Z/28 in the product lineup is an extremely big ugly sore spot. :mad0260: Rant over, please return to your regularly scheduled thread. :D |
I'm sure GM will come up with a Z28 Model in the near future so don't give up yet.

I think it will come out sooner than that but here is a thought, will it be a car version or an option package? Hopefully a car version but whatever they do, I'm sure it will be pretty awesome.

True, but I truly believe that GM will create a Camaro worthy of the Z28 name but I do not envy the folks on the design board for they have one tough job to do with that one. However, I think it will learn toward competing with the Boss302.

Have you guys thought that GM may have a trick up their sleeve? Maybe they are retooling the LS3/L99 engine and then give the possible Z-28 the Magnetic Ride from the Zl-1. Tell me that wouldn't be a track beast.

"Giving up?"
Oh yee of little faith! There are far more reasons to do it than to NOT do it. It's "simply" a matter of time...to complete the Project before the clock runs out... As to an "unworthy" Z/28, I assure you that will NOT happen. It'll either be "right", or the name won't be used... Stay tuned... |
I believe this time next year my Victory Red with white stripes Z/28 will be ordered. :chevy:
|
The SS has 400 and 426 HP while the ZL1 get 580, that's 150-180 HP different.
There has to be something in the middle around 500 HP! Z28! :D Just my thoughts... |
Please join us in the thread titled ZL1 - LSA - MR + LS7 + Pedders = Z28
It will give you the understanding that we are not and will not give up. EVER!! |
With the upcoming launch of the baddest Camaro ever, GM isn't going to add in anything to distract from a car so close to being able to be ordered and likely, at least initially, will be high in demand and interest.
Recall, GM is a business that needs to sell cars to survive as the bottom line. We WANT GM to succeed, so you don't want to . And marketing gurus know that if you really want people to want something, you hold it just out of reach and make available slightly less than the demand, at least initially. Otherwise, you'd might as well have a Firebird too competing for your dollars. GM isn't going to do that, so we have to wait. Once the ZL1 is in the showrooms for a bit, I'm sure there will be discussions of a new model/edition on the way, and Z/28 seems like a natural fit, but we'll just have to wait and see. I have faith. |

GM isn't going to debut the Z28 on the 5th gen... |
The ZL1 will produce a demand it CAN meet. It will also produce a demand it CAN'T meet. That is a more attainable pricepoint. Many will want the high performing ZL1 however it will be too pricey for some. Enter a more moderate priced higher performing Camaro the Z28.
