How does this compare to the 4.11's for the manual transmission? Stronger/safer than the 4.11's?

Wow, $800 for gears. It pays to be the first to come out with something for a 5thgen.

According to the LPE site it says that they have the same quality as the OEM ones.

LPE Ring & Pinion Specifications:
- Designed to meet original equipment specifications
- Manufactured by American Axle the original equipment gear supplier for Camaro SS
- Gear material is a modified SAE 4320 steel alloy

for someone who is not current in gears tell me what does that mean? higher 1/4 times, faster 0-60, etc. what makes it special? how is it different than 3:73?

FiveO 04-28-2011 12:28 PM

Well I'm too late because I just had 411 gears installed on mine, but I would have definitely tried the 3.91's if I would have waited a little longer. Those(3.91) are probably perfect for the street/track guy with 600-800 HP!! Will somebody please try them and post results!!

Exactly. Much faster in the low end, lose top end and MPG.

Wow I should have just bought a corvette

Wow, that looks like some good stuff ... Nice torque gain of 45-50 at the wheels and no ECM calibration for speedo on the LS3 ...

No kidding huh...I think 3.91 would be the perfect ratio for me in this car, but for the price of admission, I'll stay with the stock gears for a while.

Technically you are gaining ft*lbs at the wheels...but people can be deceived by the changes resulting from a rear end gear change...Depending on where (rpm) that your setup makes power, and what type of driving/racing you're doing (and how much you want to be shifting), a numerically higher gear could be good or bad.

$800?

Still don't get the point. Use stock gears, and figure out how to get better low end torque and keep tires on the pavement. My tires spin in all gears and I don't even have an SC installed yet. So, still can't understand the whole point of paying all this cash for some gears.
I would think if you have an SC, all the top of the line suspension stuff, best wheels and tires and stock gears your a perfect driver, and could use some better low end speed then upgrade gears otherwise you don't need them.
I'm only 475rwhp. and can't keep tires down on the pavement in 3rd. gear, so not sure whats' up with that, but I surely don't need any gears that's for sure.

I've been waiting for the 3.91's from Lingenfelter ever since I broke my 3.73 Richmond's at C5festII. I just talked to them today and they haven't received them yet from AAM, but hopefully the first part of next week. My rear diff is really wanting to get back in my car.
I'll keep everyone posted as to my first impressions as soon as they arrive.

Here's a pic of my broken Richmond's:
