Advice from Experienced Autocrosses and Road Racers Needed

Hey guys, I'm looking at some more mods for my autocross and daily driver. I've been autocrossing for a year now and I'm running in ESP. I know the driver mod is the most important, but I'd like to continue improving the car as well. I'll be staying on street tires as others in my class are doing the same.

2010 1LT/RS
Here's a list of mods already installed:

BMR 1" Front with 1.2" Rear Drop Springs
BMR Rear Sway Bar with End Links
Pirelli PZero 245/45 20 Square Setup (Had an extra set of 245s we wanted to use up.)

I'll have around $800-$1000 to spend and was wondering which mods the more experienced would recommend to shave some time and improve feel. A couple options I'm considering and would like to hear your thoughts about:

1) Used rotary forged wheels, TSW or Forgestar
2) SS rear end with 3.45 or 3.91 gears
3) Suspension upgrades (Elaborate on which parts would be the best)

Thanks for the help in advance guys,
CJ

Smokies Stadium Autocross Nationals

Colt...if you are back in town I hope you are going to sign-up for the BIG National style 2 day autocross that ETR is doing at Smokies Stadium. I put up a post with all the details. It's only $40 for both days.

I'm actually out of town for 2 more weeks, I hate that I'm missing the Smokies event. I'll be back for the August event though. I'm just trying to decide which mods I should get for this fall, and need some help from the more experienced guys.

You could run STU with the mods you currently have listed. Going to 285s on at least 10" wheels would be the best money spent over anything else.

Sorry, I didn't list my engine mods, but I believe my ported throttle body throws me out of STU. I'm not too worried about class as there is a Subaru Forester in ESP locally that's fun to run with. However, I'd like to slowly build my car for ESP so my PAX times can be more accurate.

So you think the best bang for the buck would be a 10" square setup with 285s?
Thanks for the input, anyone else out there with other ideas or thoughts on this one?

BTW I love watching your autox thread NJ drive! Haha

Like is said in our PMs; tires will do more for you than anything else. Next to that I'd say gears and your suspension bushings. (subframe/cradle, upper control arm bushings, trailing arms, toe rods, front radius arm insert)

Best regards,

Guys

i'm looking at making some of these same modifications but wondering how it will improve my times.

How are you doing in the ESP class today?

Just wondering if we are better to stay stock and pick up a few points?

Colt 07-22-2014 10:28 PM

I'm in ESP for the reason that I wanted to mod my car however I wanted. Currently, the ported throttle body has placed me here. Luckily in my region the other ESP car that comes every event is a Subaru Forester on street tires as well. Sure my PAX time could be better by taking off the throttle body and dropping to STU, but I just enjoy every event. It's still just the start of my second year, and I miss a lot of events due to school. I know the driver mod can shave quite a few seconds off my time so I'm hoping to attend our region's upcoming driving school.

I don't know if you've already modded your car, or how competitive you/your region is, but I think you could be competitive locally in either class. Although I haven't beaten this Forester yet, I'm hoping to by the end of the season.

my option are AS or ESP. I'm currently running in ESP due to a CAI. I'm concidering removing it for next year but would like to hear how others are doing.

Do you not have an option for an ST class? I'd consider that if you do. I believe the only thing putting me in ESP is the throttle body. Anything before the throttle body is free game for ST classes.

Nope. I believe the ZL1 starts out in AS and moves to ESP. If anyone sees differently please advice.

According to the 2014 SCCA Solo rulebook I downloaded earlier this year, the ZL1 goes to ASP.
