So, what do the mods think of having an ftp site where everyone can upload their raw video footage to share with everyone else? Then, let the sharing and movie making commence :D and see what everyone comes up with.

well if thats not an option.....well there are plenty of freebee software out there so that you can grab a youtube video, convert it back, edit it, cut it, splice it....put it back together, then upload it back to youtube. I found and downloaded one at home and it works pretty good. At least for what I was doing. It actually converts the youtube video to a normal windows format....them I just used windows "Movie Maker" and saved it.....uploaded it to youtube and it was done.

But typically a youtube video has already been processed and the user has already done some editing. If we had an accessible database of raw footage, people could do all their own editing to create something completely unique.

I'm going to go visit with the guy in the thread I created about this to see if he's still receptive to setting an ftp server up...

You can get your footage however you like but to enter your video into the contest you have to follow the contest rules... ;)

true enough!! but those that have the production skills, and I an NOT one of them, can and will make some amazing videos if they have the footage.

Which brings to mind.....why would someone want to hand over their raw footage to someone else with the skills to make a video to submit and take all the credit? Now if you and that person went in together and you both got the credit....that would be fine.....then they could "JOINT CUSTODY" of the price.....or cut it in half!! LOL

It's a 1:18 scale die cast car that retails for $30-40.

If we were talking about a $1,000 prize purse, then yeah, I could see some hesitation in sharing footage. I think the intent is to get some awesome videos made. :)

Using an FTP server could be optional.

If those who upload their footage understand that someone else may use their video without any permission required....

It could be an option for those that want to upload raw video and may not want to make their own film.

Sounds like a good idea.
