What is the "28" in Z/28?

I understand why the G35 and 350Z are called what they are. Any why a 330 is a 330. But where did the 28 come from in the Z28?

It simply was the "Z" rpo which came after 27.

Who knew in late 1966 that the alpha-numerical combo would catch fire with the buying public.

:word: It's just a code. But it sure sounds Hot doesn't it?!? :D

It sure does. And it's not even contrived.

BTW, the car in my avatar is believed to be Z/28 numero uno. That Porsche 911 seems to be having a hard time keeping up with it. ;)

Alot of them did back in the day... especially once the 350 was put in it in 1970.

Very close, Z27 is SS RPO, Rally Sport is Z22. That's why I alway start RS/SS since the RS came before SS RPO wise.;)

First year Z's did not have the Z/28 emblem on the car... 68 was the first year.
