CDC sports bar
Hi everyone, I just installed a sports bar on my vert and wanted to do a quick write up about it in case anyone else has been thinking about it. The bar looks great and wasn't too difficult to install.
The install just involves taking your back seat out, which is simple, and then taking the plastic trim out, which is also simple. After that you drill through the plastic trim that you've taken out and then put it back in place and drill though another plastic piece under it http://s8.postimg.org/723vaym79/IMAG0310.jpg I was worried because my holes didn't match perfectly but it ended up fine. https://fbcdn-sphotos-b-a.akamaihd.n...80292871_n.jpg Then you attach a metal mounting bracket to the metal behind the B pillar on either side. It attaches with a bolt in a preexisting hole in the metal, but once it's in you have to drill 2 more holes in the sheet metal to secure it. This was the worst part for me because I was afraid to drill into the metal of my baby but it also ended up being fine. My only problem was when I was attaching the bracket to the supplied nut plates that hold it in, it stripped the threads of the nut plates when I torqued it to the recommended specs. http://s16.postimg.org/osct6teet/IMAG0313.jpg I got ahold of the manufacturer and he said when they install they don't use a torque wrench, so if you do this install I recommend torquing a good bit below the required amount(6lb/ft worked for me). But the manufacturer was very helpful and sent me out 2 new nut plates. Then you partially reasemble the back, slide the bar in the brackets and tighten, then reinstall the rest of the back seat area. I think the bar looks great, it really adds to the already amazing lines this car has. http://s17.postimg.org/9wc97pygv/IMAG0351.jpg http://s11.postimg.org/c6k6axzv7/IMAG0355.jpg http://s23.postimg.org/m2758pswb/107...23977199_o.jpg http://s22.postimg.org/z3xfcg44x/IMAG0354.jpg |
Sorry for the poor quality of the write up and not enough pics of the install, I'm more of a do-er then a writer!

Thanks for the write-up. This is on my mod list.
There is a video somewhere on this forum (maybe in DIY) that shows how to do it as well. |
You're welcome. I did see a video from a professional installing it, I don't know if that's the one you're talking about. I just wanted to give my inexperienced installing advice to anyone who wasn't sure if they could do it themselves. It looks even better in person. I liked it but was iffy about buying and installing it when I saw it in pictures, but now that it's in I can't imagine my car without it. Definitely recommend.

usmc1371,
It does look great! When you have the top up can you see the sports bar in the rear view mirror when looking back through the rear window? Also, would it obstruct rear seat passenger heads from your rear view mirror? It looks like it is tall enough, but I'd appreciate your perspective. |
This was my first mod and i love it. 2013 black on black ss.

I can barely see it in my mirror, I don't notice it though. It doesn't bother the passengers in the back, might be a bit harder for them to get in but it doesn't get in their way once they're in. |

One of my first mods. Me and a friend did one in my car shortly after getting. Took about hour and fifteen minutes. I really like mine....and looks awesome

I would really suggest the revolution sports bar.it really fits the contour of the car .
And is much easier to install. A little more money but well spent. I've gotten numerous comments about how much the revolution bar does for the cars looks. beats CDC hands down. my opinion |
