clutch/brake fluid question

I have a 1LE that makes 490 to the tires, anyways, took the car out tonight and like someone flipped a switch it developed a hard clutch pedal, so I checked the brake fluid and is very dark, the car only has 7700 miles but does kill a mustang or two on the weekends, no sidestepping the clutch, I'm over all that, just roll launches for me.....so any info on service or fluid requirements would be very helpful, thanks.

You need to change the fluid at the least. There are some threads on it. The clutch dust has contaminated the fluid. This is a common issue here. You can separate the fluids with a separate reservoir for the clutch and that will make fluid changes easier and prevent damage to the brake system. Hope that is all you need.

thought that might be the solution, thanks for the reply.

For what it's worth, try to use DOT 4 brake fluid too.

Bad news, got the dot 4 put in, drove it to the wash and lost the clutch(throughout bearing) fluid from the bellhousing and pedal stuck on the floor, so.. does anyone have clutch and bearing insite? If I pull the tranny no sence in not putting a clutch also.

I would swap out the master and slave to ensure you get the problem. The throwout bearing wouldn't vomit fluid but the slave cylinder would. If you plan on dropping the trans then put in a tick clutch line and speed bleeder line.

Motul RBF600 is great stuff for a fluid choice.

As far as clutch goes I'm considering the Centerforce DYAD clutch as the #1 choice. Although the Mcleod and Street Slayer options are right there too.

thanks for the info, back to the garage...

+1 on the Tick lines. Did both myself. Makes bleeding the clutch so much easier.

The clutch bleeder screw is inside the bell housing, could be it backed itself out and unloaded your clutch fluid?? Did the fluid level in your reservoir go down?

Do the Tick lines come with their own reservoir?

Was having hard pedal issues nite before and super dark fluid, was just hoping for lucky brake changing fluid, now i know fluid needs to be changed every so often.

No.

No it does not, I used a JDP reservoir kit and have the Tick remote bleeder line. It works great, 6-8 pedal pumps and the whole clutch is flushed w/o getting under the car, remote line is close to the reservoir so you can keep an eye on the fluid getting low.

I did the separate reservoir mod about six months ago and I'm really pleased with it. Flushed the brake system at that time and the fluid is still clear. The clutch fluid is easily changed when it gets dark and the pedal feel has been great.
