JDP Motorsports J-Spec Camaro

Hi Guys and Gals!

We've been building, testing and breaking things on our 2011 Camaro 1SS/RS for over 2 years now. It has gone through a bunch of configurations and it was built primarily for road course/autocross duty. The premise behind the build is to have a daily driven full weight Camaro that can go to the track and be competitive. We've done that and now we'll share some of the things we've done.

This is the Camaro when we first brought it to the shop!! Virgin!!!!! :confused0068:
https://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphot..._6666259_n.jpg

We installed and Airaid CAI the first day we had it and it has been on ever since then! It is a great system and one we use on a lot of our builds.
https://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphot..._5040193_n.jpg

The next thing we installed was an Elite Engineering PCV catch-can. This didn't add anymore HP but it does keep everything clean and functioning properly!
https://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphot...70753735_n.jpg

We then installed a Hurst shifter to shorten the throw and add a little style. I later removed the Hurst upper assembly and use the stock knob attachment now.
https://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphot..._8035243_n.jpg

The next step was to help it breath a little better while turning the volume up a bit! We choose a Magnaflow 3" Comp Series cat-back.
https://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphot..._6103312_n.jpg
https://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphot..._6553453_n.jpg

I personally enjoy having a car that handles so the next step was suspension. We install a bunch of Pfadt goodies along with some Spohn trailing arms and toe links.
https://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphot...9_316453_n.jpg
https://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphot...9_458630_n.jpg
https://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphot..._4275706_n.jpg
https://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphot..._8057454_n.jpg
https://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphot..._7502273_n.jpg
https://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphot..._6950545_n.jpg
https://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphot..._3281634_n.jpg
https://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphot..._2204750_n.jpg

https://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphot..._4981484_n.jpg
https://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphot..._3111525_n.jpg

Now that the suspension was up to the task we started adding more HP. We went with a set of KOOKS 1-7/8" LT headers. The performance gain was huge and with tuning we picked up 40 RWHP.
https://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphot..._7334004_n.jpg
https://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphot..._5905170_n.jpg
https://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphot..._3352527_n.jpg

It was now time to take her out to Miller Motorsports Park and see what she could do! We ended up finishing 1st in the PCA Time Trials and they car was working excellent on stock tires. I did notice the brakes were being worked very hard and starting to fade however.
https://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphot..._3495467_n.jpg
https://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphot..._2370458_n.jpg

That lead to the development of our CTS-V conversion package. We wanted to create a package that allowed the customer a complete solution at a great price. We're using the HAWK DTC-30 pads up front with the HP Plus pads in the rear. The package includes stainless lines made to our specs by Goodridge and all the required parts/hardware are included down to the Motul RBF-600 fluid. The end results were truly impressive!!
https://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphot...47008946_n.jpg
https://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphot...74039622_n.jpg
https://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphot...08818889_n.jpg

We also decided to change the front radius bushings at this time and we went with the Pfadt pieces.
https://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphot...38323242_n.jpg

The next track event was going well until we broke an axle... This has been the single largest issue I've had and it took us months to finally come to a workable solution! We're now running stock axles with the DSS R/R upgrade and we haven't had a problem since.
https://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphot...63024512_n.jpg
https://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphot...62357430_n.jpg

I then decided I needed to do some waxer mods to make the Camaro look better and unique. We went with a ZL1 front bumper and we changed everything to include the performance gains offered from the increased downforce and brake cooling.
https://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphot...90310497_n.jpg
https://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphot...81764318_n.jpg

We installed a CSF Radiator while we had the front end torn apart along with our Stage 3 N/A Cam Package for yet another large jump in HP. We also installed our JDP HEater Hose and Fuel Line Relocation Package.
https://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphot...28580467_n.jpg
https://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphot...70753735_n.jpg
https://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphot...69405083_n.jpg

The next step was a Glossy Carbon Anvil spoiler. This is a great looking piece and it also increased the rear down force.
https://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphot...36858564_n.jpg
https://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphot...77401402_n.jpg
https://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphot...05014999_n.jpg
https://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphot...77038103_n.jpg

Next we were offered a set of Pfadt Gen 2 Coilovers to test. We were blown away by the quality of these units and we couldn't wait to try them out.
https://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphot...11671268_n.jpg
https://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphot...14291064_n.jpg
https://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphot...73207811_n.jpg
https://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphot...08747008_n.jpg

Next up it was time for some better wheels and Tires!!! We went with Forgeline because the quality and workmanship are 2nd to none!!! I decided to stay with a 20" wheel to keep with the daily driver theme. We wrapped them in Toyo R888's for some improved grip at the track.
https://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphot...21802220_n.jpg
https://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphot...63109380_n.jpg

We also went with a FAST 102 intake, VMAX velocity ring and Holley Valve covers to clean up the engine bay. I think it looks awesome!!
https://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphot...22084194_n.jpg

We then installed some Pfadt ZL Spec sways along with a JDP front tow hook.
https://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphot...27187846_n.jpg
https://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphot...08729507_n.jpg

We have won the last 2 Lap Battle Time Attack events at Miller Motorsports Park in the Limited RWD class. The car is very neutral and a ton of fun to drive!! There are a lot of pieces missing from this write up but I will go back and add things in very soon!

I'm curious on the tires, are you actually driving them on the street? I thought they were too soft for a dual use setup. My car is used the same way, sunday driver and as many track days as I can do but I may drive from VA to NY on a weekend once or twice a year. I was probably going to go with nitto invo's since they seem like the best compromise on traction and longevity for a dual use vehicle. I'm too poor to have 2 sets of wheels/tires and will probably be getting a 20" 10 and 11" setup sometime this winter.

My engine and suspension setup is very similar with only some different brands here and there. Brakes are stock with better pads/fluid since I run shorter courses near me that focus on handling and not a lot of high speed straights.

thebeast916 10-15-2012 08:08 PM

I'd like a price on the 6piston brakes for the front. I would eventually like to upgrade my camaro 4pistons I have now.

ackeight 10-17-2012 09:00 AM

Do you have any more pics of the Holley valve covers? I'm really really liking that alternative to the billet aluminum $600 ones. How do you like them?

I run these tires everyday and it is a daily driver. They don't last very long however with the track events and the way I drive. They are a far better tire that the Nitto Invo and you'd probably have no issues with what you're doing with your car. That is the combination I run on my Camaro as well.

The brakes made a difference on the short technical tracks I run and of course they made a larger difference on the 150+ MPH braking zones. I'm very pleased with my car at the moment and now I just need more power! I'm building a 416ci LS3 for it now and I'm looking for 550 RWHP reliably.

We have them listed on our website under JDP Products and we have a thread HERE. I can't post that info in this thread however but you're welcome to PM me anytime with questions.

I do and they are great! They are offered in Black, Silver and Polished. We've done the Black and Silver about 50/50 and the Polished are a PITB to keep clean. Here are a few pictures. We also installed our fuel line and heater hose package and cleaned up the wiring on both cars pictured below.

Silver

Silver

I have more pictures but I am really happy with them. We offer them with new GM gaskets at a great price; please call, email or PM me anytime with questions.

I appreciate the interest in our build and have a great day! :chevy:

You met your limit on passing people :) I especially like the pass on the cayman. I'll keep ya'll in mind when I can set aside some dough for the valve covers. I'm still recovering from buying all my pedders zl1 track stuff.

We're planning on it! We'll have to see how everything else shapes up in terms of events next year but we're planning on it. You'll have to roll down here for an event next year also! :D

I'm now running stock axles that Driveshaft Shop modified with better boots, grease and vent tubes. I've been fighting axles issues for a year now and they are finally working great!

The car is dialed in at the track; I couldn't be happier! :headbang:

I'm running the Forgeline GW3R in a 20 x 10" Front and 20 x 11" Rear. The tires I'm currently using are 285/35R20 in the front and 315/30R20 in the rear. I currently have Toyo R888's on the car but I'll be switching to Michelin Pilot Super Sports in a few weeks. It is dropped about 1" lower than stock at the moment. :chevy:

Oh thanks for the specs! So this stance is very doable with just lowering springs if it's just lowered by 1".

That is correct and I'd suggest going with the Hotchkis springs if you're looking for a 1" drop or the Pfadt springs if you want to go 1.25". Please feel free to call, email or PM me anytime with questions. Thanks for checkout my build thread and have a great day! :chevy:

You guys are my hero. I'm almost done doing mods somewhat like your cars mods lol. well ish.... Have almost all the same mods Looking into rims and tires now, camber plates, and the tow hook. Before I go back to the road course in October.

cheaplabor 03-17-2013 09:42 PM

I just bought a set of forgelines the same model and size as yours, and have the stock 285 front rubber from a zl1. Do you have any rubbing issues on the front with the 1" drop and the 285's? Awesome vid and cars btw, I think yours is the only gen5 with Gw3's at least for another week or so.... Could you pm me a price on some recommended springs to achieve the same drop? ....thx. I'm in Canada so shipping to T1S-0E8

We appreciate it!! I haven't been in this thread for a minute!!! The tow hook is a very important mod considering the lack of a hooking point up front! What mods have you done to your Camaro?

Nice! I don't have any rubbing issues until I try to run 2.5* of negative camber.. Then I have to use a spacer to push the top of the tire out a little. The trick is to get the correct off-sets. I've got the Pfadt Gen II coilovers on my Camaro currently and I have a set of 100% refurbished Gen II's for sale if you're still in the market!

I also installed the ZL1 diffuser along with a 3" Magnaflow ZL1 cat-back!!

It sounds pretty wicked with our Stage III N/A camshaft package!!

We installed a DeWitts radiator which in turn wouldn't work with the Airaid CAI so we opted for a Roto-Fab system. This set up keeps the car cooler at the track and the radiator is very nice!!!

I have literally added 15+ other items so I will go through and update this thread. What do you guys think?! :chevy:

Kind regards,

It's nice but, I'm lost didn't you have a blower on? or did you take it off and go NA? and what are the 15 items you have put on the car hurry up and tell us? lol I'm dying to know.........please.

As far as my car goes, I have Ctsv brakes, 305s front and rear on forgelines, magnuson tvs 2300, pfadt stage 5 kit suspension on gen1 coilovers with camber plates, adm boost gauges, borla catback exhaust sports, arh headers, heritage grill, catch can, pfadt's new zl1 sway bars, pfadt control arm bushing kit.

Jordan, i bought the CSF radiator a while back and was wondering how it compares to the Dewitts. I havent installed it yet, gonna do that in Jan when i go twin turbos. dont run a cai since im Centri at the moment and obviously wont be when i add the PT6766s.

Built this car for the street and want to keep it cool at the road course when i finally finish it. The intercooler im going to run will be the 1300hp unit from procharger and is only about 12.5 inches tall so it should leave plenty of airflow for the radiator. So, should i sell the CSF and go Dewitts or keep it as is. I need the best options, not really concerned with saving a hundred bucks on the cooling.

I was thinking of adding fans to the front of the radiator as well as the factory fans in the engine compartment. So, basically pushing air thru the front of the radiator and the factory fans pull the air on the engine bay side. Would this help keep the car cool on the road course running my boost controller dialed way back to about 7psi?

This is a great and informative thread for those of us who are interested in modding for road courses. I'm only at the beginning stages of mods, having done CAI, Tri-Ys and retro chamber cat backs.

It would be nice to see what parts are needed for different levels of road and track performance. :)
