V6 brake pad replacement question

so I need to replace my brake pads & I'm wondering which would be the best pads. I've never changed the pads on my Camaro but on other vehicles I've owned I've always used the Duralast Gold pads ($95 for front & rear). I can get the Hawks for $155. My car is a daily driver & I don't really do a lot of "hard" driving with the car. The only real advantage of the Hawks I can see is less brake dust. Is the extra $60 really worth it?

Did you price the Dealer OEM Pads, I like them.

I really like the Hawk HPS pads for daily/street driving. They will stop better than stock while also producing less brake dust. We also currently have them on special!

Please feel free to call, PM or email me anytime with questions. :thumb:

About how many miles should I expect to see out of my OEM pads? I'm about 45,000 miles and the dealer has yet to tell me they need changed ( dealer offered free oil changes for life, they also check all the usual stuff ).

And how long do the Hawks last?

I have almost 62,000 on mine & the back ones just started to chirp (I'm assuming from the indicators. I'll just change all the pads at once.

It really depends on how you drive and how much stop and go you do. Some guys get 20k others get 60k. I'd say you are probably pretty close with 45k. The only way to know for sure is to look at your pads.

I had a lot of junk around the emergency brake, but my pads were fine, even with 62,000...I changed them out anyways though

Thanks for the follow-up! Those pads are actually still pretty good, I'm surprised. Notice a difference at all?

cntryman77 07-08-2013 11:10 AM

not yet, but I haven't really gotten on the brakes yet...they seem about the same to me...I went with medium grade (semi-metallic) which are what the car had on it though, not ceramics

Sorry to jump in. I'm just rolling past 96k on my original pads! However, the front insides are making noise, so looking to replace the pads this weekend. So I'm wondering, Advance auto sells some Akebono ceramic pads for $50....are these $100 - $200 pads really that much better for a daily driver?? I want something decent but quiet still. I've had no issues with the OEM ones. Anyone every priced them, are they outrageous?

I usually use the Duralast Gold from autozone...they are a medium grade semi-metallic similar to the OEM pads, but this time I got the ProStop Platinum pads from pepboys (I had a $10 off coupon)ended up paying $57 for all the pads...they look to be similar to my factory pads

try centric pads, installed on many Camaros and never an issue
