Other than weight, trucks are a great platform for straight-line performance too. They have solid rear axles, RWD/4WD, solid boxed frames, etc. 4WD is popular because it allows the trucks to launch hard (similar to AWD Evo's, WRX's, GTR, etc.). Trucks are also very cheap, especially ones that are around 10+ years old. Many people pick up a 10 year old Silverado/Sierra for cheap and drop money into the performance stuff. In most cases, it will still be chepaer than a new Camaro (for example) and it will be faster.
People want diesel's because they are severely detuned from the factory. A simple handheld tuner will give you another 150+ ft lbs. of torque. Real tuning along with a built drivetrain will give you crazy results.

Yeah, it's insane. There is a Chevy Dually 4X4 out here that runs mid 10's. It's a Duramax diesel. It looks new. He's gotta have way more in that truck than a stock Camaro. The truck stickers for around $50K. Seeing a big ol dually run 10's is definitely impressive. Would rather have a fast car though. Just a personal preference. These kind of trucks are legit. It's all the others blowing black smoke all over me trying to outrun my car that get on my nerves.

:confused0068:The black smoke is the biggest clue of a worked up diesel . With very little work these trucks can push some insane HP and TQ. Don't let the size fool you.

My truck outruns ZR1s out here, I would give some serious respect to us diesel owners.

A lot of HP and Torque and being able to run for hundreds of thousands of miles of abuse, cant beat that. And you can pull trailers, haul stuff, off road etc.
Ive seen some guys get 2wd 12 vavles in the mid 11s for real cheap, like less than $5k.

Because its more impressive to see one hit 10s than seeing a camaro/mustang/vette hit those times! My buddy's 4x4 power stroke runs 11.30s in the 1/4 :thumb:

How is it now awesome to see a 8000# pickup ripping 10 sec runs?

2SS45th 10-28-2013 05:07 PM

Picking up an 11 second slip in 8000DA, then hitching up a 10k pound trailer, and driving an hour home without issue. Pretty damn cool if you ask me.

Don't get me wrong. It's definitely impressive. Just can think of funner things to drive that are quick. I don't pull trailers with my Camaro.. LOL.

Anyway, I thought it would interesting to see what you all thought. If I can just keep the young kids with diesel trucks off my butt.

Black smoke doesn't mean they are pushing big power. Don't let that fool you.

Wow a modded truck beating a stock SS shocker. A lot things can be modded to be faster than a stock anything. Of course a lot trucks or cars need to be modded to keep up with a SS.

Maybe I'm old fashioned or maybe just misinformed. What's the deal with giant, four wheel drive trucks blowin black smoke all over the place and wanting to race muscle cars? I swear I get one clown a week who wants to go. If they aren't crawling up my tailpipe prompting me to go faster, they're taking off from a light like a bat out of hell.

I've seen some of these beasts running some pretty impressive times but it's a very small crowd. But now, every kid with a diesel motor and a performance chip or program wants to race. So far I haven't given them the satisfaction, and more than likely the dissatisfaction of losing. I feel it's a waste of time. But I'm sure 99% of them aren't going to run an 11 second 1/4 and if they can't, they're wasting their time messing with the Reaper. :)

Anyone else seeing this trend?

PS- my truck's for pulling boats and camping.

I often think of and occasionally do tell people, it's a truck, go tow something....

My F350 dually is for pulling stuff (my camaro and other cars) and getting me up and down the road.... It dang sure isn't for racing....

Why not have one that does all three? It's more fun...

Their are some fast a$$ trucks running around my area too. They are always trolling for a race.

Side note: I use to think "stacks" were stupid looking......But with all the modded diesels running around blowing crap out of their tailpipe I am thankful when they install the stacks! :)

And people with attitudes like this are what makes owning a quick truck so much fun! i also like my quick sedans, miss my old modified GTP and 84 regular cab S-10 with a nice 355 :(
