11mpg?

Hello everyone,

I am getting around 11-12mpg around town. I know that I drive the car pretty hard and don't utilize the gas-saving features very much (1st-4th)... but that seems pretty low.... any thoughts? Pull the fuse?

Thanks,
Max

Try resetting your gauge.

It's the sound of the NPP that is causing your right foot to keep the gas to the floor .Lighten up on the gas and you'll get better fuel milage .

Sounds like a hybrid economy car compared to mine...lol

I'm getting between 17~18 right now with the occasional heavy foot on my work commute. Yes indeed, the note of the NPP is more than tempting at times.

Did we really get these beasts for gas mileage?

How many miles on the ODO? I averaged about 14mpg for the first 800 miles or so in mixed city/hwy. Now I am up to nearly 18mpg at the 1500 mark.

Just because you can hit 80 in 2nd gear doesn't mean you should cruise down the highway there :)

What kind of conditions? I get single digits when I'm crawling around NYC (took me 2 hours to go 31 miles today). I'm averaging 17 or so mpg with mixed driving for commuting. That's about 45% in-town, and 55% highway (but often the highways are 1st and 2nd gear affairs because of traffic).

So to get 11 around town, especially if you tend to keep it in a lower-gear and let the revs sit above 2K RPM, seems perfectly reasonable.

I get about the same. LOVE the sound of that npp

is there a way to know your mpg for a tank of gas? DIC always shows me life mpg stats. Everytime I get above 15mpg I go to the track the the 4mpg kills the average big time

Mwalterhouse 06-26-2014 08:16 PM

I am averaging 13.8 in town with all of my mods.

To the OP, what is the % concentration of Ethanol in the gas that you are using. Call them up at CS if you have to get the answer from the horses mouth, I did..

Ethanol will degrade fuel economy based on my experimentation, hands down.

A brand new engine will a bit more as well.

Last but not least, how wide are your tires, and what are your cold pressures? I'm assuming stock 285 goodyears on your 1LE. They will degrade fuel economy a bit vs say the sport all seasons the narrower V6 crowd are running. Factor that tiny bit in the calculations as well. Then there is your foot...

It all adds up dude.

Yes. After you fill up, and with the instant average fuel economy screen up in the dash, press and hold the button on the stalk until it resets. I do it as a matter of habit.

There are a few Apps for smart phones that help you keep track of your MPG's. Requires you to put in the miles after every fill up and the gallons used per tank. I have a record for every single one of my cars before and after mods. Kinda neat to compare them all. I got my Duramax from 17-21 with mods and then back down to 19 after some other mods.

Anyone have a link to the fuse pull for the Octane reset? I know which fuse for the NPP but haven't found a write-up for the Octane reset fuse pull. Thanks

...my mpg seemed to improve when I pulled the fuse.:iono: I made an immediate post here to that effect. From what I've witnessed, mpg is relative to avg. mph. As she's seasoned, mine's gotten better and better. I just went out and checked. I'm on an even 26 mpg average. Honest injun...
