I didn't think people used CB's anymore.

Well how bout this. Me and my subaru buddy both picked up a couple and now I'm tryin to figure out where to mount it. Whether you like them or they are outdated or not any ideas?

Our club all uses hand-helds on our cruises. I had my CB mounted under my seat in the Jeep. The problem you run into is being able to hear the speaker. I bought a remote speaker (actually just used an old computer external speaker) and plug into the CB. You could also mount it in the glove box if you have a separate speaker.

Cobra used to make a model that mounted under the dash and all the controls were on the mic (maybe they still make it). You could just plug in the mic whenever you need to use it. Nice & clean!

My friend has a '77 Mercury Marquis with a factory CB radio. We tried it out on one road trip last year. 5 hour drive, and I think we heard 3 different guys on it, each for a very short time only.

I got a handheld CB a couple of years ago for a Cruise I was doing with other Camaros. Couldn't hear the person who was last in the pack when I was first. In fact, couldn't really hear him when we were standing next to each other. Mine was new, not sure if it was his antenna or what.

Think of a CB radio as a Nextel Sprint Direct Connect for a black '78 Trans-Am with Burt Reynolds driving.

I've got a handheld unit as well. They function like a regular CB, but only have about 1/4 mile to 1.0 mile range with the handheld unit antenna. If you want full range capabilities, you'll need an external antenna.

A lot of the handhelds are tricky in their setup. Mine...made by Midland...if you are using power from the car (cig lighter), it assumes you're using an external antenna and will try to broadcast out the end of the ext antenna plug. Needless to say, range isn't good. You need to make sure it's using the handheld unit antenna (short, stubby, maybe 6" long) and range will be much better.
