WHY YOU DO THIS?

Hey all,

I hit the local drag strip tonight in my auto 2014 ZL1, First two passes were good (ptm 5, transmission in "m" for sport mode) On the third pass however, about 2 seconds after slamming the gas the throttle response was gone and it revved all the way up to the redline. My car was dead in the water, while limping off the track I put it back into the "D" position, it lunged hard and returned to normal operations. I made 5 passes afterwards with the shifter in "D" and aside from wheel spin all was well. Why the hell did my car do this? I always baby it and never abuse it..

Wouldn't have happened with a stick shift.

are you sure it wasn't wheel spin that caused that?

Yeah sounds like you just blew the tires off it, hopefully that's the case.

JohnyBoy 08-07-2015 05:45 AM

I'm sure it wasn't wheel spin, in my opinion it almost felt like it missed it's shift but how can that happen in an auto?

JohnyBoy 08-07-2015 06:05 AM

I should probably mention that I didn't exactly loose throttle response, the car had stopped moving forward. As I feathered the throttle to get off the track it kept revving hard but didn't accelerate, almost as if it didn't have a transmission.

Really sounds like wheel spin...granted we weren't there. you would know better than us. but from your description that's what it sounds like.

JohnyBoy 08-07-2015 06:31 AM

But why would the car coast down to almost a stop just to keep revving at the redline when I would try to accelerate?

JohnyBoy 08-07-2015 06:32 AM

And not move until I put it back into "d"

gajagfan 08-07-2015 06:40 AM

I believe the OP could recognise wheel spin. I believe we have a tranny issue.

2013 Orange SS 08-07-2015 06:45 AM

Probably because you always baby it. The poor car was in shock from being allowed to run free down the track.

JohnyBoy 08-07-2015 06:48 AM

I had wheel spin off the line, then it hooked up and THEN this happened.
