Non-expensive Snell 2005 Helmets

If anyone is having a hard time finding a cheap, affordable Snell 2005 helmet for the meet, Try Typhoon Helmets at 616-638-3512 located in Michigan. Found them online and called to verify that they had the certification in the helmet. Three colors and priced at $59.95, down from $149.95. I am in no way affiliated with them but didn't want to spend a couple of hundred dollars for a helmet. It is the motorcycle helmet so the Snell rating is M2005, which if I understand, is sufficient for the track.

Just an idea for anyone getting down to crunch time, and due your research before buying. I ordered mine today and will let you know how it is when I get it.

10 dollar head - 10 dollar helmet.

Do yourself a favor...Protect your mellon as much as you can.

If it's SNELL rated, doesn't that meen it's been tested as good protection?

Those ratings are a minimum and the cheaper helmets are only single thickness...What you really want is a double thickness shell. Been racing and riding dirt bikes for 30 years and ive seen those 50-100 dollar helmets split open like egg shells.

Thanks, I have no experience here.

No problem..When it comes to personal protection its always best to get the most you can afford. Arai and Shoei are usually the ones to go for. Dont just pay for one because it has a cool design on it and is expensive also..You are usually paying for the design.

Yes... Buy a good quality helmet. I got one for $150.00.

www.saferacer.com (I used SCCA discount).

Here's the one I bought...

Been trying to buy one from MTI for a few days. no response. saferacer.com seems to have the same 3/4 helmet.

good post "streetshark",but i was thinking.as much money as we spend on these cars,i would have to spent a few bucks more to get a quality helmet.i wouldn't purchase one just because i had to have it.i would get the best one i could find.after all this thing is designed to help save your life.
