Very nice set up. I can not afford the price of the equipment let along the install charge.
How is the Scoshe kit working. I have the scosche kit but not installed as yet. I bought a pioneer AVIC-Z130BT. After I installed I heard a pop and the radio does not work. It sent to be repaired.

Kevinshawnm 02-27-2012 10:23 PM

Love the sail panels!

camarograna2 02-27-2012 10:25 PM

Thanks caddyroger.

Only problem with the kit is the steering wheel control. Not working with kenwood radio but I was expecting that from previous posters. Once the new kenwood 9990 comes out will get that fixed. Hopefully the new firmware is ready when I swap the radios. Otherwise installer will have to do a workaround.

People complained about pieces being loose and it was solid tight for me. Touchscreen is awesome and all the features work.

Glad to see yours done...looks great

camarograna2 02-27-2012 10:31 PM

Indpowr. Your install and price was what inspired me to pull the trigger on this. So technically this is thanks to you!

Nice!

Hmm it appears there is room for some 6.5" speakers in the rear door panels?

=Stephens= 02-27-2012 11:29 PM

Nice install, I like the tweeters shrouds you had built.

Thank you...

How does it sound? Do not shy away from turning it up, the highs are amazing

camarograna2 02-27-2012 11:44 PM

The highs are clear and loud. Emphasizing on the clear part! I feel sorry for my neighbors.

On another note the subs flow nice with the highs. They go perfect together

camarograna2 02-27-2012 11:45 PM

Yeah they are very nice as the installer used the same base and modified the front cover.

My goal was to make everything flow and make it seem like it came from the dealer

camarograna2 02-27-2012 11:47 PM

That's right. Not sure why gm has that hole. I've already seen folks put speakers on that spot. Would be too low though so would have to mold them to face up and tune them correctly.

Did your car have the BA stereo in it before you made all the changes?

camarograna2 02-27-2012 11:52 PM

Yes it did. The fronts and tweeter have been replaced with its own crossover and amp. The center speakers and rear 6x9's have been removed.

I really like those as well. Nice set up for some tweeters. Is there a crossover in the door as well?

Guess I should have read further down. doh What are the speakers you put in the doors Model #?

Iwantone2 02-28-2012 10:43 AM

i will be digging into my system next week or so...im trying to wait till everything gets here (hurry up 9990hd) lol...i went with the cdt hd series..im running components upfront, 3" front stage in dash, 6.5 braxils in rear sill ,2 -6.5 mega bass in deck lid and 1 12" carbon fiber series sub in trunk...all stinger pro wires ect...should be fun.i cant wait... very nice work btw...it must sound amazing

Chad's ZL1 03-21-2012 12:52 AM

Nice setup man. I just recently decided to go with some hertz products too after listening to them. They sound great. How's the base in the car? With the sound deadening stuff does the trunk lid rattle much. I'm going to go with hertz door speakers and rears, but am going with the 3 JL 10" w3's in the stealth box. That audison amp is tits!

kalimus 03-21-2012 11:36 AM

I like it! Have you had any issues with your rear deck clacking yet? Mine does it only when it's cold outside. I have to just get off my arse and put something over those plastic tabs in the back, but I've been a little lazy.

Zach@ExtremePerformance 03-21-2012 03:03 PM

I'm guessing the SR4 is bridged into two channels?

You should add a Bit 10 and take it even another level!

c'mon...you KNOW you want to...you deserve it...and so do the Milles... :D

camarograna2 03-21-2012 03:37 PM

Thanks

In the Middle top section of the trunk it still rattles when i have Rap on even with sound deadening. The base sounds great but i need more sound deadening on ceiling.

camarograna2 03-21-2012 03:47 PM

I know I know I really really want it but the budget is closed for this year (unless i get another promotion lol). I wish i had some sponsors !!!!!. I still have to finish sound deadening on ceiling and floor, get a good alternator, get the bit 10, I also want to add another set of milles somewhere (+ another amp of course), and finally a nice light kit for the amp rack. But nooo all that has to cost money :Dlol. How much you think the rest of what I want will run me?

Ohh and yes the SR4 is bridged into 2 channels.

Lucky you.. are you installing the sound system yourself? My installer gave me the 9980 demo from his store till the 9990 gets here. He was nice enought to do that because of 2 things.
  1. I really needed to get the install done fast after i got my scosche kit to ensure it was working properly.
  2. I was going for alpine instead. It was his way of convincing me to Kenwood
    • I loved the kenwood features but it was too slow.
Once i gave him those 2 reasons he offered it up. Hopefully by end of this month i have the 9990

TonyC 03-21-2012 04:03 PM

yes install is getting done by me and i to am waiting for the 9990hd and schosce kit...i dont want to start untill i have everything i need

camarograna2 04-04-2012 09:31 PM

Woo Hoo my installer called me earlier and the 9990HD just arrived. Too bad I don't have time to install it till the 14th.

usmcjlp 04-04-2012 10:11 PM

I should be able to help you out with the sound deadening.

Got my kenwood 9990hd installed today. Awesome speed improvement from the 9980. I'll post the pics tomorrow.

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. I appreciate you posting your build here. I have decided to do an active 3 way front stage. I want to reinforce the mid bass as much as possible.

I am actually going on Tuesday to listen to the Hertz Mille, Audison Voce, and German Maestro Status line(original MB Quart Designer from the 90s). Supposedly there is a shop in San Diego that has them all installed in vehicles that I can listen to.

When we exchanged pm's, you answered some questions for me about sound deadening. I kept researching and spoke with multiple shops. You were right about the amount of material. I ordered 4 bulk packs of Stinger Roadkill for the first layer.

The dynapad that they used on your vehicle is an absolute must if you want to quiet the road noise. For those that aren't familiar, dynapad has a layer of foam, a layer of 1 lb/per sq ft vinyl, and a second layer of foam. The foam serves as a decoupling layer and the vinyl is a mass loaded barrier.

I found a company that specializes in sound deadening for commercial and marine applications. They sell many versions of dynapad. They carry a 1/2, 1, and 2lb version. They sell in bulk. I was able to get 4'x8' sheets of the 2 lb vinyl layer for $90. I am going for 100% coverage. I will also be applying the 1" accoustic batting to the back of my panels. Here is the link:
http://www.soundprooffoam.com/

I'll post a thread when I get a chance to install it. I'm still deployed, so I'll let you know when I get started. I just wanted to thank you for your help. Sorry for the confusion, but I'd been celebrating prior to typing, never good.:drinking:

TonyC 04-18-2012 08:57 PM

very nice, my 9990hd is going in next week, looks great...

usmcjlp 04-20-2012 01:12 PM

It's hard to tell online. How well does the color and texture of the Scosche kit match the stock trim?

styphon 04-22-2012 01:29 PM

Does the 9990HD allow you to use the steering wheel controls?

Did you get the XMSirius add on also?

camarograna2 04-22-2012 02:24 PM

The firmware update for the scoshe kit did not fix the steering control issue. My guess is because this is a brand new radio and it may be different from the previous 9980 model. My installer is communicating with scosche R&D to try to find a fix. If that doesn't pan out my installer would make it work but I don't really care for it so haven't got him to do it.

I did not get satellite radio. It does come with hd radio and it sounds clean to me. I stick with iPod though

To me it's dead on.
