The rumour is there will be 25 Festival cars as there were this year, and the graphics may differ on those (stock factory stripes?). The GM people in attendance would not confirm if there would be any replicas or how many though.

Interesting note though. Initially they only had a '69 pace car there as well, but at the last minute brought the '82 and '93 from the basement. I mentioned because of that they had us fooled as we expected that the car would be white with orange stripes. His comment to that was "Stay tuned,,,".

I'll go as far as to offer to start the waiting list.... Just because I am a FAN of "stay tuned".....

The last non-GM to pace and provide support vehicles was the '96 Viper GTS and Chrysler, also had the trucks with the same paint scheme. It is believed that GM and the Speedway have an exclusive sponsorship deal for GM to provide pace and support vehicles since. There were rumors a couple of years ago that it was going to Ford, but obvioulsy it didn't happen.

As to the '71 Challenger that was a bit of an anomoly. Normally the program was done with full corporate support from the manufacturer. Chrysler had no interest in doing so, so that year all the central Indiana Dodge dealers got together and convinced the Speedway to let them provide the vehicles. As the video shows it did not end well. Since then they've only allowed sponsorship with full corporate support.

Nice! I like these stripes. I was over in Europe this summer (England and France) and found it interesting that the Europeans refer to these stripes as "American racing stripes".

I e-mailed my bro-in-law over in England a picture of the 2010 Camaro pacer, then called him. His immediate response on the phone when he opened the e-mail was "Bloody hell, those American racers look nice don't they?" I responded that a lot of Camaro owners were upset at the "Shelby stripes". He laughed and said, "Shelby? No, no, no. Tell them Shelby copied them. That should get their motors running".

These stripes may have become linked with Shelby, but yes... credit where credit is due. Cunningham came up with an awesome idea. They're gorgeous, especially if edged with pin stripes.

It's the generation gap showing, just like these young kids calling wheels, "Rims".

It was cute at first, kinda like calling your wife, "Hey you, with the boobs!" She might let you get away with it a time or two, but eventually you're gonna hear about it

As a third-genner, every time someone says "heritage grill" I think of this:
The 1992 Heritage Edition Camaros had that grill, matching the body color.
