Service Stabilitrak came on after getting new tires
 

So I got new tires all around for the Camaro, I went with BFGoodrich tires and got 245/40/20 up front and got 295/40/20 for the rear tires. I picked up my car after work and drove back to work to get all the gunk of the wheels and what not (I work at an auto detailing place by the way). On my way home the service stabilitrak light came on in the DIC and then my Brake, ABS, stabilitrak, traction control and competetive mode lights all came on. They stay on anytime I am driving. I already disconnected the battery and let it sit for ten minutes and the lights still came on after driving a couple minutes.

Does anyone know what the problem might be? :iono:

most likely has nothing to do with your tires. Call OnStar and see what Check Engine Light (CEL) codes they're pulling up. Ask to speak to a technician. If you have a crank shaft position sensor P0355 or something like that, then it's most likely a wiring issue.

There's also another document that's related to v8's specifically, but basically says the same thing. OnStar TECHNICIAN should be able to look this up for you during normal business hours.

I change tires twice a year for winter and summer tires and have also done two rim changes. No issues.

245/40-20 is too short of a tire (27.7")
295/40-20 is too tall of a tire (29.3")

The Camaro ABS/Stabilitrack/Traction Control system is programmed to read wheel speeds at each corner. In order for this to function properly, you need to maintain similar tire heights at all four corners. At least within 0.5" difference, to be safe.

This man knows what he is talking about. I am going to experiment with my tires to see if a 1.0" front to back (3.2% difference) is enough to set off the Christmas tree lights on the dash. You have 1.6" difference (5.7% difference) which is obviously too much.

I'm assuming that .75" should still be ok. Since lets say that you have a completely bald set of 4 tires and you only replace the fronts or rears first. If your tires have 12/32 tread depth then your new tire will be .75" taller than your old bald tires just due to the fresh tread depth.

I think i read you can fix this with a tech 2. I don't think tuning helps, because it's your ABS module that is throwing the codes.

This thread says it sets a code when the tire speeds differ 6% at speeds greater than 62mph (about 3.75 mph). Yours are off by about 5.7%. Looks like you are just to close to the threshold.

This is why I ended up going with the setup I have. I really wanted 295/40/20's in the back but couldn't find a similar sized matching front tire. Someone else on here tried a similar setup to yours and said his dash lit up too due to the differences in tire height.

Any chance of swapping out the 245/40 fronts with something a bit closer in height to the 295/40's?

I haven't torn apart the rear of a 2010+ camaro yet, but if the rear has one speed sensor only on the differential housing then you can do some simple math and adjust the tire size/gear ratio with tuning software to fix this ( i would do this on no traction control 4th gens). If it has a sensor at each rear wheel it gets a lot harder to fool the ABS computer (traction controlled 4th gens).

Most of the Stabilitrac equipped vehicles are 4-wheel sensor equipped. Next time I'm under my Camaro, I'll take note.

Some of the guys I ride with have 305's and have no issues

We're not talking about width.

It's not the width that is the problem, it's the tire diameter. Those guys are probably running 305/35/20's which are 28.4" tall (stock is 28.6"). 305/40/20's would be 29.6" tall.

so is there a way for me to get the lights to go off or am I going to need to get a different set of tires and sell these?
