Creating Carbon Fiber Parts

Been doing some research on creating my own carbon fiber parts. Looks like its a pretty straight forward process; just takes some skill and a LOT of patience. I plan on purchasing the carbon fiber weave cloth, resin, mold materials and maybe trying my fuel door to see if its doable. Has anyone attempted this before? If so please post your experience!

anyone?

I look forward to seeing your results.

Unfortunately, I have no carbon fiber experience, so I have nothing useful to contribute.

I ordered some stuff last night so hopefully I'll have some results to post next weekend.

I read up on it quite a bit. Its a whole lot cheaper than buying them. Just is a lot of work that could potentially not yield anything.

I watched a video of the process. It looks like too much work and I would be afraid to mess it up.

im not trying to do a hood or fenders or anything. I was planning on doing my gas cap to start and just see how it goes.

Even small thing seem time consuming. If I new for sure I would not mess up I would do it haha

yup seen that one...trying to start out with something flat. I have a friend that does the molds as well for a completely carbon fiber part. I was planning on gas cap, iPhone case.....just so i get the feel of the compund and resin to be able to saturate the carbon fiber. I'm going to be using the "skinning" method at first but would eventually like to get into molds (got another friend who does lots of fiberglass molds)

When you're ready to do a diffuser, I'm in. =P

jhmurphy on this site has done some CF skinning on his own.. Heres a link to the bowties that he did http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=101290 last time I talked to him he was going to be doing his console lid as well. He may be able to help you out if you have any questions.
