Brake change dealer price

I got quoted $550 to change all 4 brakes on my SS. Is that a good price. Or can it be done way cheaper! Thanks!

:faint: .... is this pads, or pads and rotors?

If it's pads WOW.

It took me about 45 minutes to change my front brake pads and I was REALLY taking my time. I feel working on my car is an event to be savored, so I don't rush it ever.

The pads are so easy to do (assuming that all you're taking about). A 1 armed, 1 legged, half blind red headed stepchild could do it in less then an hour. The calipers don't even need to be removed.

With that said, crazy price for pads alone. Good price if OEM pads AND rotor resurface.

Whenever you change brake pads you should have the rotors resurfaced. If you change your own pads, this means taking them to an auto parts store to be turned. I heard that our stock rotors are pretty thin so they can only be resurfaced a couple of times before you need to replace the rotors.

Alot of people are not willing to do the work involved to change their own brake pads. Even for a red-headed idiot, if you have never done it and have no experience with working on cars, it's not that easy.

$550 is too much but what do expect from a dealer.

brake pads are easy if you have the right tools. which it doesnt take many..

i will sit down and change my brakes before i do my own oil change... for the 20min an oil change takes its much easier to let them do it.

Anybody have a link to wear I can buy my own pads for my brembo brakes? I need all 4

Pace 05-05-2014 11:48 AM

Seems low - plus labor and I am sure they will tell you to cut your rotors or else disaster.

All the Chevy dealerships are offering new pads for $100 each axle (most cars). Are Camaro SS's not included? They don't turn the rotors at this price... I find if the rotor looks good just do a pad slap and they work just fine.

If anybody needs to replace the front brake pads on a Gen5 SS to clear 17" wheels, the part number is 19137367 AC Delco at any Chevy dealership. Cost about $53 + tax.

sscamaro 05-05-2014 12:24 PM

Like they said, do it yourself. Hawk Ceramic pads are about $220 for 4 wheels and it reduces the brake dust by 95%.

jd10013 05-05-2014 12:35 PM

$550 is about right if your having someone else do it. that's most likely going to be just resurfacing the rotors. unless these cars have really cheap rotors, to replace all four of them would probably put you in the $1200 range.

if you shopped around you might get it $100 or so cheaper, dealers are never the cheapest guy in town.
