looking to put a big block in my 98 camaro
im looking to put a big block in but i dont which engine i should get and i really dont know to much about hot rodding. I thought before i just went out and bought a motor i would ask around and talk to a couple people that have done this before. What are things i need to know before starting this project.

My tip would be that you make sure you have the money to finish it,cause its going to be expensive
|
yeah....good luck with that bro........youre gonna pay out the @$$ to convert your car into something that will be able to handle that big block........check out SUMMIT RACING that might give you an idea of some things
|
they have small blocks that push some damn decent power.......theyre well priced......and you wont have to change TOO much on your car to be able to install it....... good luck

Have you considered an LS motor? :iono:
I'm betting you could build an LS motor cheaper, and also, consider the weight advantage versus a big block. As I've posted elsewhere, I have a buddy who owns his own shop, and we've been talking about the possibility of putting the LS7 in my SS. Swapping in a LS motor is easier than installing a big block. ;) |
I'd go with Moose's idea about the LS7, it's smaller, more efficient, and will have pretty much the same horsepower as a 427/454/502

whats an ls motor
|
is the ls motor the same as the one in the newer vettes

whats a good ls motor because the ls7 seem to have the most hp but are very exspensive

I'd start by visiting some shops in your area, as well as any salvage yards. |
thats the thing there are really no good shops locally. At salvage yards you think they would have decent motors? Also you think i can build up an ls1 to make it a low to mid 10 second car?
