Zero oil pressure on start up

8 Attachment(s)
So I recently purchased a 2012 SS Camaro M6 really enjoyed driving it for about a month or so. know I’m dealing with a zero oil pressure issue. Turn engine off is displayed on the dash with a chime sound going off. So I did some research and found out the oil pressure sensors go bad no big deal right. Well replaced with a new one from my local Gm dealer and same issue zero oil pressure. So I put a mechanical gauge on it thinking maybe the gauge is bad and no luck zero oil pressure. After doing some more research I found out that the oil pump must of failed and that several people have had the same problem. So I pulled the pump and this is what it looks like

That sucks bud. Looks like you have some metal in there. Did you run for a while after the message came up?

Yeah it sucks man, I ran the car for about a minute if even that. I did try to hunt the problem down after lots of research so I did start the car again after i replaced the oil pressure sensor. I thought for sure that would fix it but after starting the car still no oil pressure. So I put a mechanical gauge on with same results zero pressure. So I did lots More research witch lead me to believe I have a bad oil pump. There’s definitely metal in there the pressure valve was stuck I had to tap on it to get it out. Car ran for a total of about 2 minutes altogether

This happened to the Lingenfelter 650 HP build early on before oil pump failures were becoming known. After about 33,000 miles, zero oil pressure for no longer then 1 minute of running destroyed the engine. Very sad time. Then wife asked what i was going to do about it.

So I dropped in a LSX376-B15 racing block, was able to use the supercharger and is set at 12 lbs of boost. It is a monster setup.

And this was not Lingenfelter's fault at all. They didn't change out the stock oil pump because it is not a performance part- just maintains oil pressure the same on either engine setup. They even offered to install new engine, no labor costs, just parts.

Man I feel your pain that you had at that time. Only 1 minute of run time and it destroyed the engine Mine is definitely done then. 12 pounds of boost I bet that things a blast to drive sounds like lots of fun enjoy and be careful out there. One of those racing blocks would be nice but out here in California smog laws stop us from going to crazy with a build. Well on anything as new as the Camaro, but 1975 and older you can do as you please. Kinda in the same spot to right know with wife asking what’s goin on so I’m goin to flush engine as good as I can. Then replace oil pump and hope for the best if that don’t work I’ll have to pull engine out and have it rebuilt if it’s possible if not then a new crate engine is on the menu.

Hey what’s up guys just wanted to give a little update with my Camaro. Finally had some extra time to address the situation with the oil pump failure. I purchased a new oil pump and o-ring from my local Chevrolet dealer and a melling oil pump pick up tube brace from summit. All installed and cars running with good oil pressure it’s been a nightmare the past month or so. But hopefully no other issues and I can enjoy this Camaro now that it’s back up and running.

Excellent new bud!

Yes sir I have about 238 miles on it so far. And I have already did 3 oil changes to help clean and flush out the engine from any metal shavings. Hopefully all is well if not I have a ls3/480 crate engine for a replacement.
