70 1/2 LT1 Z/28?
 

So a relative of mine has a 70 1/2 Z28. Originally a LT1 4 speed car. The 4 speed trans, and maybe the original rear end are gone. The car was bought new my him, and they pulled the LT1 and replaced the 4 speed and rear end. The car was drag raced.

I don't know a whole lot about the car. I know it won some drag racing championship back in the 70's. The lips of the quarters around the wheels were bent (not sure how to describe it) so that the bigger tires would clear. He said you cannot tell when you look down the side of the car... I don't know. I have personally never seen the car.

Now what I do know. The car has 500 miles on it. It has sat in a garage it's entire life aside from racing. The original LT1 is still in the possession of the owner. It was pulled at 12 miles and stored. My dad has seen the car and said aside from being messy, it looked extremely solid and would make a good project. I also know that myself and one other person have a chance at buying it. The other guy hasn't said anything in a year. So the car will sit until i try and make a move on it (if I do).

He told me the price now is $6,000. I could save up and get it later this year, but I am in high school and restoring a 79 trans am... So realistically it wouldn't make too much sense. He said the price in 5 years would probably be about the same too. Is it worth pursuing?

definitely a project car. It was raced. It wasn't cut up to race, but it was raced. He said it will need paint. Original trans and rear end probably gone. It will need work to get it back to original, however the foundation should be excellent.

well if yea have the room to keep it somewhere i would defintly take it but with the 79 trans am it depends how much work both will need. I guess since your in school it wouldn't make sense have two cars to look after. See if yea get to see the camaro in person and then decide if yea wanna take it and restore it.

Definately worth it if you have the orig matching number engine. Will take a few bucks to get it back together. You'll need cash & space to keep it.

Space is kind of an issue right now. I may work it out to where I maybe put a down payment and he keeps it till i want it. My brother is building a shop within 2 years.

I would jump all over it'. Assuming it's not a rust bucket. The early 2nd Gens are gaining more and more popularity all the time. If you don't get it then one day you'll look back and kick yourself saying....I could've had one for $6k.

If you can find the money, and the space, i say go for it man. Im currently saving up for a late 2nd gen camaro (similar to your trans am), and i cant wait! But if you do get the camaro, dont just let the TA go by the wayside... make sure you can do both!! :D

Yea definitely get this car. That is a great find. But when you restore it, i would recommend using a date code correct 4speed and rear. It would take quite a few bucks to make it nice/almost perfect but would be well worth it.
