Keep L99 or trade into LS3

I have hit the peak of affordable mods on my car. Considering cams has me floored at cam and stall cost upto around 6g's!!! I can cam LS3 for 2 g's?!? Thinking of dumping auto and back to stick. Opinions?

So let me make sure I understand this :

You want to trade your L99 car for an LS3 car just to save money on a cam?

Just understand that if you do that, you will be saving money on a cam install, but you will be losing money on how much it will take to you get your car to run as fast as an L99 car, and not break anything.

You'll lose more that 6gs in the trade...

Yeah I think you will get doinked on trade.

I don't think L99 VVT cam is that much....

Cam $400
Lifters ?
Pushrods $150?
Various gaskets $100?
Labor $800?
Tune $400 on dyno?

What am I missing?

It shouldn't cost that much but yes it is more to do a swap on a L99 vs LS3. Just the LS3 conversion will put you around $1,500 unless you can do all the work yourself. If someone is saying $6K to do it I would get another quote or ask around for some help on install. Just my .02

i did my cam swap and afm delete for 1k for the materials and 800 for labor from a good friend who will charge the same for others. and we have a tuner locally. and this way you can be consistent at the track. just hit up texas speed and get their conversion kit and the cam you want. bring it to oklahoma and save yourself some money

I have three quotes 4000-4700 cam install with parts. Stall is 1000-1500 install and parts. Seems ridiculous . My buddy has an auto c6 and was quoted 3700 for cam/stall installed for one of same places I checked. Shiznight I may have to head your way haha!!!

shiznight 01-14-2014 08:25 PM

come on up, i have the tuner and a couple of guys who can do the swap. save yourself a headache. if you're serious i can give you their contact info

Ya I am definately...what cam you running, and are you stalled?

Sorry but no.

You just want a stick to make more power? Or you run quicker at the track?

huitt06 01-14-2014 09:18 PM

I'm stuck at my power level ...4000+ Dollars just aint worth it for 60-80 hp

shiznight 01-14-2014 09:19 PM

stock stall, i'm running a vvt1 cam. i could go bigger on the cam but i wanted to keep my stock stall. hell aside from headers i'm on stock exhaust. just talk to texas speed and they can give you an idea of what cam you want vs your goals

shiznight 01-14-2014 09:27 PM

i have 1770 invested in my car, but i skipped on alot of bolt ons and went straight to bottle. as far as na i have headers and intake and a small cam. i dyno'd 417/422 through the auto. a little more porting on the intake and tb i could see 440 to the wheel possibly.
