Can someone please explain why i would need adapters on my rims?

Sorry, but i dont understand the concept of needing adapter's for aftermarket rims.

I keep getting mixed replies so im hoping for the right advise.

Im looking to buy some aftermarket rims for my soon to be SC LPE car. The problem i keep running into is fitment.
The tire i want to run are the Nitto's NT555R's 305/35/20 rear and 275/40/20 in the front.
The rim i think i need are 20x10.5 rear and 20x9 in the front. Im also about to purchase some Pedders CoilOvers and im worried about fitment.

I know that 11.5 is what would be perfect for the rear, but i think its already going to stick out to far in the rear anyways.

Different people have told me that i need adapters not matter what size or type of rim i get. Can someone please explain to me why i would need an adapter for any size rim?

Any advice would be appreciated!

Brandon, if your wheel seller is recommending adapters for an aftermarket wheel....run.

If ordered and spec'd out properly, you should never need adapters or spacers to make a wheel work. Most people use adapters because they are trying to make a wheel fit which wasn't designed for the Camaro. If you are going to spend the money, be sure to get some wheels that are built specifically for your car.

BTW, that 305 wide tire you want to run works better with a 10-10.5 wide wheel. The Camaro easily fits a 11.0 w/ 315 tire in the rear.

Thanks,
Tony

:bolt: Don't do it!

There's no good reason for adapters. Stick to Camaro5's reputable vendors.

Hi Brandon,
The Quality wheels that are built for the Camaro don't need a spacer, adapter, or hub centric ring. Any wheels that do aren't purpose built for the 2010 Camaro.

If you are looking at a quality wheel, they will be machined to your spec's/offset/sizing.

All you should need to do is talk to the wheel manufacturer/seller and tell them what size tire you are planning on using, and they should be able to spec out the wheel for you.

CCW 20x11.5 with 315/35ZR20 Nitto Invo

In the first picture, the left wheel is the stock 275 Pirelli and the right is the 315 Nitto. With the CCWs, they don't stick out so much as they go in a lot further. However, there was an issue with the wheel contacting the parking brake cable that required a bit of adjustment. Nine Ball certainly knows his stuff so I would go with his recommendations.
