Z/28 Camaro and C7 Corvette testing at Nurburgring

Shows a more recent testing of the Z/28.

GroundhogSS 09-06-2013 11:53 PM

Love that sound. Thanks.

Great sounds! Maybe we'll see some C7 and Z/28 Nurburgring times soon.:thumb:

Wolverine 09-07-2013 05:49 AM

Just a little more of the Corvette...

Doc 09-07-2013 07:37 AM

I don't know what they've done to the Z/28's exhaust but not only does it sound different from the Vette but it sounds quite a bit better! Man what a gorgeous sound!

backtotintops 09-07-2013 08:38 AM

"What if the 2014 z28 can't produce a better time than the ZL1 at a long track like Nurburgring? It is impossible to match the speed of the ZL1 at Nurburgring, cornering, braking, handling and ride could all favor the ZL1 as well... Remember, the ZL1 is a one lap wonder, but that first lap is usually a very, very fast lap... If the z28 is down 12mph on the 3km straight, it will be hard to beat the ZL1's time... I think that's a 7-8 second loss right there... I'd have to do the math."

guess who wrote that nonsense in another forum???…hint…"make up". When a keyboard jockey uses the word "impossible" that should tell you something ;)

I figured the "lap of the gods" needs to get done around now so these new videos make sense in the timing and can't you just tell the z was eating the 7.

ssmike 09-07-2013 10:51 AM

I could watch these videos all day! :bonk:

ThaCamaroKid 09-07-2013 12:35 PM

Pretty cool footage, I want some numbers though!

I think the Z/28 will be low 7:30's maybe high 7:20's around the ring, if it breaks into the 7:20's I'd consider that a massive success.

The only 2 cars with weight similar to that of the Z/28 in the Top 30 around the ring are the Nissan GT-R @ #10/#14, and the Lamborghini Aventador @ #17....

I have high hopes for the Z/28 but I don't see it hot lapping the Aventador.

The factory Tri-Y shorty headers and 3" exhaust sure sounds good on that big small block LS7.

vroomapunk 09-07-2013 01:50 PM

both look like really sticky cars

radametz 09-07-2013 02:11 PM

Awesome video! :thumbup::thumbup:

That Z/28 really does look at home on the track..can't wait to see some lap times

2cnd chance 09-07-2013 02:34 PM

The Vette looks so smooth. That Z/28 looks really stiff...like a race car.

G200 Pilot 09-07-2013 03:34 PM

Oh, but YES!!

I noticed that as well. I love the Z2/8 exhaust sound (it's my phone ring tone) but I actually like the C7 exhaust sound better.

Moreno1 09-07-2013 04:11 PM

Just me or does the spoiler on the Z look a bit larger than the normal one? Maybe that is the 'extension' Al O. Was referring to in the Leno video?

Or maybe I'm just seeing things...

Bhobbs 09-07-2013 04:24 PM

Wish there was more Z/28 in that video.

I wonder how much longer until we get a lap time.

Yes and yes.

PYROLYSIS 09-07-2013 04:55 PM

Both cars look great out there but the Z/28 looks like its punishing the track. Hopefully we will see the full version soon. I don't know that they could ever make a Camaro I want more than this one. I'll have to settle for just buying a few parts from it which will still be pretty sweet.

FINALLYSATISFIED 09-07-2013 05:01 PM

Looking forward to the #s.

What about a z28 with a supercharger?

Why would they ruin a Z/28 by bolting on a supercharger?

Superchargers are made for brute force. The Z/28 is all about finesse. Think cleaver vs. stiletto.

I'm aware the spoiler is different from the normal SS/ZL1 spoiler

Al O. Said in the Leno interview there is a 'wicker bill' that attaches to the z/28 spoiler for increased downforce on certain tracks. Since it kinda looks like the spoiler on this z/28 looks a bit taller than the normal z/28 spoiler, I'm wondering if this z/28 has said attachment.

I'm picturing something like the spoiler on the zl1 carbon edition

ummm because 500 hp just isn't enough these days. of coarse there will be other mods as well. If you bought a new 70k+ camaro (estimated) would you want gt500's and zl1's smoking you at every light??? I know....the z28 is a track car.

Wouldn't matter what engine was in the Z/28, they'd still be smoking me at every light as I would not be "racing" against someone on the street.

Apples and oranges.

Men, with a sense of responsibility to their community and fellow citizens take it to the track. So, I don't give a sh*t about any other car sitting at a stop light and I sure as hell don't want to be anywhere near a dickhead that wants to "smoke me" at a stop light on a public road. Of "coarse" any testosterone-addled douchebag that practices racing on public streets has earned the opportunity to have their car confiscated and auctioned off by the local po-po.

Driving in a straight line is boring. What I do enjoy mightily is honing my skills and pitting my ability against other drivers at a track event.

So, yes, you figured it out in your last sentence, the Z/28 is a track car, where a high-revving NA engine is usually the right choice.

Tell us about your left-seat road course experience?

This thing doesn't need as much HP as the ZL1 because it won't be a heavy pig like the ZL1. The Z/28 isn't about straight line acceleration. It's about running a road course as fast as possible. Bolting on a supercharger with all it's extra weight will ruin the handling they developed with the Z/28.

Look closely you can see how the Z/28 extension looks in the picture (see the link I provided above).

The Z/28 has the LS7 or 427C.I. or 7.0 Liter engine (which ever designation you would like to use)with dual mode exhaust, while the new C7 has the new LT1 or basically a LS3, 6.2 Liter with direct injection and variable valve timing with dual mode exhaust. The LT1 is making 460 HP and 465 Torque in the C7. So that's why the Z/28 sounds better cause the LS7.

I'm used to hearing V8's. In fact I was out at the speedway today driving in an HPDE event and heard everything from Hondas to Ferraris, Porsches, Lambos and everything in between. There's a throaty, tubular tonal frequency in the Z/28 exhaust that I don't hear elsewhere. It really sounds good. The Z06's and ZR1's at the track today didn't have that sound. Between the tri-y headers and piping, Stielow and team have done something with either the pipe size, crossover, mufflers or something to give it that great tone. Can't wait to actually hear one of these in person.

more info pointing to this being part of the record run. Single driver ...first time I've seen this

notice the body lift on accel...more than I would have thought. Is the side skirt trim there? it looks like it is not?

a silver roof?….the first time this car (I think it is the same car based only on the paint job) did not have a silver roof….the black gaffers tape is to hold down the wires to the data/gps antennas….I think there are 3 and a cellular antenna on the right rear also possibly a suction mount on the upper right of the windshield for a gopro.
http://img89.imageshack.us/img89/3237/or2b.png

you can see the 2 black dots next to the factory antenna..these are likely wired gps/data antennas

and a white 3rd data antenna

now is the time…cool weather for hp but not too cool surface temps…they are working hard.

It would sound so much better if you removed the mufflers.
