Best 20" tires for autocross?
 

I've got the knock off 20" American Racing (mad in China) torque thrust weels. Fronts are 9" wide, back are 10" wide. This year I'm running Mickey Thompson ET Street II in P305 width on the back. What I'm looking for is front tires for autocross. Michelin Pilot Sport Cup looks good, though 245 width is a little narrow for 9" wide wheels.

Anyone have any other suggestions that Pilot Sport Cups for the front?

(Stock 245 Pzeros on front are pretty worn, and weren't that great for autocross last year.) The cheapest I can find these pilot sport cups is $477 per tire.

Anyone try autocrossing with Nitto or MT drag radials in the back?

Full BMR suspension poly bushings and roll bars will go on the car very soon. Hopefully a Janetty Racing 3.91 LPE gear pumpkin with BMR diff bushings as well.

My best 1/4 mile last season was 12.5@116mph. (60' times in the 2.1 to 2.0 range :-(

Yes, I want to autocross and drag race the same car, and not have to change wheels every weekend.

I haven't ran any autocross events, all road racing events I run Toyo's R888 285/35/20
This a great tire, we are very limited on a 20in tire.
Eriq from TORQ runs these tires also, he has run several autocross events on these tires.

you run the 285's on the front? Any clearance issues? Is your car lowered?

Someone told me I would peel the drag radials off the rims trying to auto cross them. Anyone disagree with this statement, especially based on experience, VS opinion?

Don't run the drag radials on an autocross course. Drag radials, by design, have a weaker sidewall to allow for flex during hard launches. Autocrossing requires very stiff sidewalls to keep the tire from "rolling over". So, although the drag radials might not "peel" off, you will damage their sidewalls using them for auto-x.

In terms of 20" autocross tires, see my sig for what I'm running. Your best bet is to run as wide a tire as possible front and rear. I'm looking into running 10.5" or even 11" rims up front for my car.

R-compound tires are hard to come by in 20". In fact, I think only the Toyo R888s are 20" R-compound.

Look at the Michelin Pilot Super Sports. They come in a huge variety of sizes, including 20 inch. From what I have been reading, they ought to be pretty decent auto-x tires. Not to mention a perfectly streetable upgrade from the p-zeros. Interestingly as well, these tires are significantly lighter than other brands in the same size. Like 4 to 5 pounds per tire.

And like I told you, I highly doubt that drag radials will pass tech inspection for auto-x.

I like the Nitto NT-05's...They work well on the autocross course, 200 treadwear, so pretty good grip and work for drag racing too...

Yes! NT-05s are also going to be very good auto-x tires for any of the street classes based on numerous reviews I have read.

I saw these on tirerack.com. Good price, and had 9.1 reviews for handling. They seemed to have higher reviews than other, more expensive tires with softer compounds. These Michelin Pilot Super Sports appear to have 300 treadwear, VS 220 for Perelli P Zeros.

Have you ever run any TLAC events in your region? If so, did they ever give you any grief for running 315 on the rears? Like you, I'm leaning towards going with 315's in the rears but I'm not sure if should stick with my original plan (using 285/35-19's). I realize some clubs may be stricter on the rules than others. I'm just trying to gather as much info before going out buying rims and tires for SCCA and NASA events that could potentially disqualify me from regional competitions.

Yes I run 285's on all 4 corners, the rims I have are Forgeline the offsets are 38mm all 4 corners.
I also have MTI Racing coil overs, there are issues with clearance, what I had to do is change out the front 10in spring to a 8in spring, even with the Phadt coil overs you have to change out the springs.

Are you running on 19's or 20's and what size rims did you go with?
