Borla 11775 Installation

My exhaust just came in the mail today. I was under the impression that it was a easy bolt on swap. After reading the directions, it seems as if I need to cut the factory exhaust. Can anyone confirm this? If so, will a reciprocating saw with a metal blade work for the cut?

Cat back exhaust systems are bolt on, axle back exhaust systems are not. You can cut it with the right saw and blades.

All axle-back exhausts require cutting the stock pipes. The only way to avoid cutting is to install a cat-back because the only place where the exhaust clamps together is at the catalytic converter. A reciprocating saw with a metal blade will work just fine. Measure twice, cut once.

Damn it! I am coming from a Mustang where a Corsa axleback was a bolt on. Of course I did install an X pipe with it. I guess I will be cutting this weekend!!!!!

Just mark it all the way around, or run tape around the pipe so you can keep your cut reasonably straight and that's all there is to it. The catback is ridiculously easy to pop out, so you don't have to do it under the car either.

Ahhhhhh.....THAT explains it......a Mustang........Since you have now come to your senses.....you are forgiven. Lol.....just kidding of course. Welcome!

So...Southeast Louisiana huh? Whereabouts?

Yep, I wanted to see what it felt like on the dark side! I am just putting two and two together that an axleback with an x pipe is a catback! Oh well, it is what it is.

I am in Ponchatoula.

Yeah, on these cars, right after the cat is a sleeve clamp. That connects the cat to the front of the rest of the exhaust assembly which is an H-pipe, then the resonator (if an L99), then the trash can mufflers & tips. I just finished my header and tune install this week and trying to figure out whether I want to just do a muffler delete (too loud?) or an axleback.

Good luck with the install!

I'm not too far away; Pearl River / Slidell. I have been wanting to get to Hammond for the monthly CCC gathering but always seems to have something else going on....

Super easy install, did mine a few weeks ago in the driveway. I used a sawzaw with a new blade and it cut through like butter. Took 30 minutes tops. Good luck and enjoy.

Thanks for all the votes of confidence, it was just what I needed. I did the job today in around 30 minutes and could not be happier. The look and sound is awesome compared to the huge cans that come stock. They will be waiting for the garbage man on Tuesday!

Glad it went well. Pics? Video?

thahemp 05-18-2013 06:50 PM

Yep. That's the cost of Camaro5 help. Video!

I might let him slide if he let's me get a first-hand listen.....:D
