SLP 1.85 rocker & spring kit

I've been kicking around a cam but need to stay kinda stock sounding for the emission nazi's OBDII & visual inspection. Saw the SLP rocker & spring kit that will increase lift to ~.600 on the stock cam and wondered if anyone has experience with it?

They claim 12 hp NA so I would expect 20+ on boost but it's a guess.

All input welcome. I know the $1100 price is steep but self install would be easier than a cam swap. Just researching options, TIA.

Do cam instead. Just got mild.

I don't have any first hand experience but have not heard glowing praise for those that have tried the rockers.

Yeah, just looking for options, couldn't find anyone that tried them either.

I am adding a LS9 cam to mine. Pretty easy install for less than $300 plus like stock longevity

They aren't good for your valvetrain geometry, especially if you drive your car hard. Stick with 1.7 and get a baby cam made for boost.

Ok, so LS9 cam looks good at 211/230 .558, .552 lift with a 122.5 CL, should idle great and give some gains. Lift is barely more than a stock LS3 (.551/.525) so do I need to worry about upgrading the springs at 8-9 psi? If so, any recommendations? I saw LS9 springs on the Lingenfelter site pretty reasonable.

Why don't you just pulley down another step, install the JRE super tensioner so it doesn't slip, and enjoy 11 psi??

Iam Broke 12-21-2013 10:58 AM

lol. Lotsa possibilities. Will the JRE supertensioner work with the SLP new design TVS? I didn't think so when I looked before. I don't have any slip with the 3.4" pulley now though.

Squash returnless is first no matter what for more fuel. Still waiting on it...

dan0617 12-21-2013 11:06 AM

Isn't your dual fuel pump setup keeping up?

Iam Broke 12-21-2013 11:51 AM

Nope, drops to 44 psi at redline on the corn. IDC hits 90% in cooler (50*f IAT's) so I'm not too comfortable until I get more fueling. It's dialed in for .78 lambda wot and doesn't lean out up top but I want more of a cushion.

Also need to research the rpm limits of the tvs before I spin it any faster. More pressure = more heat and it'd be better off to do a cam to get the flow up through the engine and let the boost drop some.

dan0617 12-21-2013 12:28 PM

Yes a small cam would be better, was just thinking pulley change for about the same power increase as a small cam for a lot less money and ease of install.

I also agree your injectors are getting up there because of the fuel pressure. Corn fuel sure needs a lot of pump. Maybe you could install a MSD BAP to get the pressure back up and allow the small cam or a bump in boost, until (if) the squash returnless system ever materializes.

I have heard of others going smaller than a 3.4 pulley but I don't know what crank pulley they were running so I don't know how fast they were spinning.

Iam Broke 12-21-2013 01:13 PM

I did some calcs on what I could find with a 7.5 stock crank pully, not sure if 7.5 is correct though.

14,338 @ 6.5k rpm 3.4"
15,234 @ 6.5k rpm 3.2"

I see guys post that they are spinning over 22k rpm on a maggie. Wow! Some post that 16,500 is optimal. Same TVS2300 rotor pack on my SLP I believe. Lots to research, thanks for the input.

Yes, I have considered a BAP but it's only going to help a little bit, I have the voltage to the FP up to 15.5v in boost now in my HPT tune.

Also raised the pressure setpoint in boost (65 psi) using the ZL1 FP settings, but pressure tanked just as bad as leaving it flat at 58 psi.

I could also retune for 60% E but mixing 2:1 with 93 is kinda a pain even for a garage queen.

I have all winter so I hope the Squash returnless is released by spring.

Upgrade springs while you at it. Stock springs are junk.
