Question about Order # VS. Workbench Number

Question: When I ordered my SS, the dealer gave me a GM Order Workbench and it had "The configuration below was created as a Preliminary Order with the following Order Number: Then there are 6 letters.

I received my Welcome packet and the code they gave me for www.my2010chevycamaro.com, (which when I opened the site, I felt a bit like Ralphie on A Christmas Story before he got his Red Rider BB Gun) anyway, on the sketch they included in the packet by Sang Yup Lee, on the lower right hand side, there is my name, order date and an order number which is totally different from the workbench number. Is there a difference? Will one number give me more info than the other?

Another question, I've noticed that some of the CAMARO5 brethren have VIN#'s how did you all get that info?

Any help would be great on this one guys!

1st- WELCOME !

2nd- The number in the welcome packet doesn't mean anything. The 6-digit code from your OrderWORKBENCH is the important number.

3rd- As far as "getting info" your dealer is the main source. Keep in touch with them, without becoming a PITA, and tell them you EXPECT them to update you as your order progresses. NOTE that there will be periods of time, sometimes a few weeks, where nothing will change. That is normal.

Oh, FYI, if you have any friends who have access to GMGlobalconnect (formerly dealerworld) they can access your info too with the 6-digit confirmation code. It's not JUST your dealer but they're really not supposed to do it.

I agree with the become a PITA for your dealer. My husband and I bargain who's gonna call every week to everyother week. I here ya, "feelin like Ralphie" when you get the welcome packet code, bit of a let down though. I wanted more...but that is only because of this sight, the more you know the more you expect...beware this sight is addicting and you won't be able to resist calling your dealer from the info that you learn on here!

Still feeling like Ralphie though!

Got my workbench order # today and it says preliminary. My dealer said it wont be ordered until the end of next month. How can they give me a number yet then? I sit already in the system?

It's an official order in the GM system but won't be placed for submission into the production schedule until then. :)

Thanks! I guess it's going to be a long wait....it will be worth the wait. This is a lesson in patience! Maybe I will get lucky and it will get to me sooner. You just never know. Looks like I will be waiting 16-18 weeks for my car. It's all good.

Thanks. When I was in high school I wanted a Camaro and just couldn't afford the insurance. Now, I can......one of the perks of getting older I tell my 19 and 20 year olds. They just chuckle. My husband is buying this car for me.....wonderful man! I am a lucky girl.

If it goes in by the end of June, you should have it by the end of August. JMO

The dealer told me it wouldn't go in until the end of July. He has no more allocations until then. Oh well, I will just count on Oct/Nov. That way I wont be disappointed. He did say there is a chance they could accept it and I would get it earlier....who the heck knows.

To find out where I am in the event codes, do I need to ask my dealer or is there a way I can look it up myself? Thanks for all of the help.
