regular or premium gas for v6 camaro?
got mine a week ago and i need to put gas. what type of gas should i put it? regular or premium?
mines a 2011 v6 1LT |
The V6 engine was actually designed to use regular. Lucky us. ;)

Regular is just fine. Some members' studies have shown very slight improvement in engine performance with using premium, but I suggest you educate yourself on this subject by visiting the V6 section of the forum. It's quite a polarizing debate!
Congrats on the new car!! |
I've been doing some careful comparisons of 85 vs 87 octane lately (87 is mid-grade where we live).
So far, I see no fuel economy advantage using 87, and I haven't noticed any more power either. |

Lower octane fuel ' burns' easier. This is why low octane fuel can detonate a high performance engine. At altitude the oxygen content is slightly less. That is why 85 octane fuel burns like 87 would at sea level.

I use 87 in mine. Congrats on the new ride.!!!!!

If mine needed more than regular, it would be sadly disapointed!

It depends on your goal. The car runs fine with regular if you are in need of cost reduction with gas prices so high that would be the way to go. If you want the optimum performance try the high octaine & see if you feel a difference. I did. I am trying to stay with 93 octane. We shall see as gas prices rise. Mine is a daily driver on a 70+ mi per day round trip commute. "Top tier gasoline" is recommended. You may also want to read up on that subject (just google it).

I use the 89 mid-grade. I have an '05 Altima (bought new) with the same double ovh cam / 4 valve setup. At first I swapped constantly between 87 and 89. My final conclusion after 20,000 miles that the extra performance was worth the extra 15 cents per gallon. It also would bing once in awhile with 87.
I decided that my 2LT deserved the same gas from the start. |
Follow the owners manual. Good stuff in there!

I go for half a tank regular and half a tank premium. There is differents ways to do so. I fill her up and at half a thank I fiil her up with the other octane and so on, this gives me a 50-50 octane.
