Rev limiter

Would it be possible to remove the rev limiter??

GTAHVIT 08-17-2009 02:35 PM

That takes a tune... but I'd be real careful if you choose to do it.

Obviously the GM warranty will be out the window. and most tuners won't warranty their work if you remove the limiter all together.

FWIW.

With tuning (though don't you have the V6?) but why would you want to? Thats just asking for a blown engine.

it's the 155 limiter you could do without. Just to let you know once you hit 155 a message comes across your dash telling you speed is limited to 155 but it doesn't bog down like when your hitting the rpm limiter.:confused0068:

Paperer 08-17-2009 03:27 PM

What are the positives of removing it? There's no point in doing it unless you've got some serious work done to the car and you need higher revs for more power, other than that, you'll blow the engine if you rev out too much.

superscout 08-18-2009 02:48 AM

hey its all about top end baby. You get a V6 top end 155 you get a V8 top speed 155 you only get there faster. I want to at least know what it would do flat out letting it be free on the track. Why limit it at 155 it is just as dangerous at 140, 130 etc. You pay for the big motor because you want faster, better, why limit it. Shoot motor trend said my 10th anniversary trans am would only do 115 and I have been clocked at 145 back in the day and that is with no mods except full dual exhaust 2 3/4 inch pipes. WOuld you put a freaking limiter on a $100 grand ZR1 then don't do it on the top end camaro.

-Scout, rev limiter...not speed governor...

Derin, anything is possible but why would you want to remove the rev limiter? Doing so kills you engine warranty for sure and that is an expensive trade-off. But if you do it, just be sure you know where your redline is and since the factory tach is not immediately in the line of sight, be sure to have a big tach mounted on the A pillar so you can easily see where your RPM is. Did you get the 1SS? You are one lucky guy. Your parents just paid $32k a few months ago for your V6 and you got them to let you sell it and buy a new 1SS. Right on! You said a few days ago you got it and will post pics. Can you post link to the photos please?

Not only that, but the speed governor has less to do with the engine than it does the tires. Hence why V6 models with the RS package including the same tires as the SS has a higher governor than standard V6 models.

I haven't gotten the 1ss yet, I'm still bargaining with the Dealership, they want to charge me 2k over msrp, but i think they will give me it for msrp:)

Give me till Friday, and i will probably have my car

Rockytophummer 08-20-2009 02:45 AM

I wouldn't take it out and lose warrinty on motor. I'd hate to see how much it cost to replace motor or have it rebuilt. Hope the deal goes through for you. Hopefully you will be happy with this one. Just curios how come you haven't had a chance to see the car yet? Before you get this car I'd triple check it and make sure it's what you want! And definatly make sure it's a 1SS. I remeber one of your earlier posts on were you had your current Camaro for over a month before you realized it was 1LT instead of 2LT. Also if you get the SS are you paying it off like you did your other one or are you taking out loan to get new Camaro? Well good luck and hope your happy this time. Post some pics when you pic her up.

maybe that's there way of getting back some money from paying you $27K for your 1LT trade in? or did you sell it privately? You posted your parents are moving to Texas and you along with them, don't you think you should wait and get a better deal in Texas? I visited 5 dealers in the past 2 weeks, mark ups were $2.5k - $10k.
