ZL1 Splash Guards on 1LE

3 Attachment(s)
I installed my ZL1 rear splash guards on my 2013 1LE last night with a little twist.

The factory install requires rivets to attach the splash guards to the rear fascia....I prefer to utilize something that can be removed at any time and I did not like the view of the unused hole from the back of the car.

I got some OE Push Screw Clips made from black Poly Pro (used for trim pieces, splash shields, fender liners ect) and decided to use these to hold the ZL1 splash shields in place. when the screw is inserted the clipd expands. These are removable, they unscrew, will not rust, corrode fall out....and are very light weight :)

I did find that the holes on the splash shields varied slightly in size, especially the second from the bottom, so I cleaned then up with a small razor blade (drill bit would have worked too)

Pictures speak a 1000 words....

NOTE: I will gladly send you some if you cover S&H. PM me.

Nice work Matt. I am having the whole ZL1 diffuser put on mine (when it shows up) so I'm not worried if its permanent or not.

Looks great though!

I just used some zip ties to hold them on. If I need to take them off I can just cut the ties and then put a new one back on when needed. But your's will look a little more factory that way too.

Nice pics too. I took some pics of my install too because I was going to post some pics but then Tramtwo had pretty much posted all the info in his build thread so I decided not to post any at that point.

Thanks,

Yes, All race cars have zip ties!!! and I almost did that myself but took it a step further...

(I spend an hour getting the plate and frame to sit right (after the 3rd frame was purchased) :)...Cut a mm from each side of my lic plate off and then wrapped just the edge in black vinyl so you cant see it on the side of the frame from an angle!!!! YEAH I GOT PROBLEMS!)

I am not selling the fasteners, but do have a bunch of extras....Someone just PM'd me and asked if they cover shipping if I would send them?.....Yes, no problem.

I'll bet the back up camera being slightly off center is just driving you nuts then!!:biggrin:

Those are the rear ZL1 splash guards correct?

The holes should match up to the existing screws holding the inner liner in place. You simply remove the two screws, pull the adhesive cover off the 3M tape, slide the splash guard BEHIND the inner liner and press the tape firmly to the fender edge, then reinstall the existing screws.

At least that is how it was on my 2013 1LE. No additional fasteners were needed.

Yes factory ZL1

Agree with most. But there are two holes that line up with the non used holes on the SS rear fascia. The factory secures these with rivets, I use the push screws. If you only used the tape and the existing screws only one went through the slash guard.

Look at picture 2 and 3 above and you can see the yellow outline area are the push screws and the silver clips are where the fender liner screws go.

Hey Matt,

can you give out the part number for these Push screws?
I'd like to try and get them from my local parts department.

Thanks

oh, they are not attached to the diffuser? i looked at them on a zl1 at my dealer and they seemed like one solid piece. maybe i need to look harder. either way, i think i want both on my 1le if they are in fact separate :)

thoughts on these??

Nice job... did it this way. These cars really should come with splash guards given the size of the tires.
