hey.. i was just wondering if i could ever make my shifter like this. i juz think it luks hot.. the "metal" luk justs give it a more muscle car look.

what kind of fabrication skills do you have?

Find an aluminum sphere of the size you want, drill and tap it to the size and thread pitch of the shift lever, and you're done. I'd recommend a drill press for that to make sure you get a good straight hole. Shouldn't require too much fabrication skill.

bonhew, are you wanting to make the shifter ball, or the shifter plate? :iono:

Oh, you're probably right. When he said shifter I assumed the actual shifter. But yeah, he's probably talking about the shifter gate. That would be a little more difficult. You'd have to know the size to make the plate, figure out a way to mount it, and the biggest part - finding the correct size to make the slots. That looks to be from a Ferarri, which use externally gated transmissions. That would look pretty sweet though, IMO. I've always liked the look of those.

If you have at least a two-axis oil-fed CNC machine like I do in the garage hooked up to AUTODesk Inventor and maybe MasterCam, its a piece of cake. :laugh: But not many people have one of those, so I have no idea how you would get that done by yourself. If there is a local CNC shop around thats your best bet. :facepalm:

Im actually talking about the whole thing ..the shifter ball and the shifter plate..

the ball would be simple to do, the plate might take some trial and error.

I was thinking if you could take some clay or something and pull the boot off the shifter, then put the clay around the top and bottom, then move thru all the gears and make indentations of where it needs to be.
